Dang Chief, you're rollin' with some old school stuff. Just goes to show you don't have to spend a fortune on lures to be a good fisherman.

That is right eric. Over the last few years I have grown fond of the nostalgia of useing the older plugs and even rods. I guess it is like somebody fixing up an old car and driving it. It looks good and it is funner than hell doing it and you will get some looks.

Chiefs mods are pretty cool......Baby Lucky 13's with a skirt on the front hook. Big Piney Old School right there.

Thanks Gavin! Skirts are about the best thing you can do for a crankbait. I have always put all my skirts on the front hook. I learned that from my dad as a very young river rat. I just grew up thinking that is where they were supposed to go. It wasn't until later in life that I saw everyone else was putting them on the back.

Hey Chief

It has been along time since I saw any one throw a Tiny Tad or Tad Polly. My Dad swore by the Tiny Tads and I have caught quite a few good fish on them. My only problem is that I am almost afraid to use them for fear of loosing any. The last ones I bought were from a collector. I don't know when they stopped making them but I have not been able to find a new source. If you know where they are available please throw me a lifeline.

Well Tim, once again they have quit making them. All the better though, I didn't like the paint schemes. You may be able to go to your local bait shop and still find some. If not you might look at Ebay. But expect to pay for it. It is hard to find one for less than $10. I still pick up a few there but I spend a lot of time watching it. I just have a few colors that I am looking for so I am camped out for awhile! :D

Glad to see you key in on them. I don't think anybody use them anymore. I love them. I like them better than a wart. These babies produce fish!!!! Lots of fish and big fish!!!!

Yep, I sure wish I still had all my tackle from when I was a kid. Where the heck did all that stuff go, anyway? Those babies would be on ebay so fast I'd have myself a new Loomis in a week.

Ahh eric, you are missing a lot of fun using them old babies! I understand brownieman's point in that, yes, they are collectable. But as Buzz can attest to, I don't loose these babies! For any reason. I am not saying I don't get hung up but he has seen me do some pretty crazy things to get them back.

Then only up to date equipment that I use is really my reels. I really like that technology!

Some of those older fiberglass rods are GREAT for crankbaits and jerkbaits. Just enough give so you don't rip the hooks out of a fish's mouth. I'm not crazy about them for plastics when you need hook-setting power.

The only old school baits I use are the Warts. I believe the action on a lot of the older lures are as good if not better than the high-end Japanese stuff, but like I said earlier, I'm a sucker for those paint jobs, even though I know it's probably more for me than the fish. I used to catch a bunch of fish on old school cranks when I was a kid, but I've developed more confidence in the newer baits and that is really all that keeps me from throwing the old ones again. That and I lost all of 'em. Where'd those darn things go? Think I'm gonna tear up the basement tonight looking for them. There's a gold mine down there somewhere.

I had a bunch of old Spooks and Torpedos and Hula Poppers and Rebel Craws, and my favorite of all time those wooden Woodchoppers with the props on front and back. Remember those? I had about half a dozen of them. Wonder what they're worth?

I'm going to the basement.

Well, Chief you beat me to it. I was going to say how you can put those things in the nastiest places and pull them right through the junk and usually catch a fish. I have never seen anything like it. All I find my self doing when I fish cranks is cussing those darn treble hooks.

Give me a spinnerbait or jig anytime when it comes to fishing the wooly stuff. ;)

If fishing was easy it would be called catching.

Me too, though I think the Warts do a pretty good job of popping over stuff.

There is an art to pulling a crankbait through cover, it takes a lot of concentration and a light touch. I'm getting better, but I still go swimming occassionally.

I hate to show my age, but my son has my old box that's full of River Runts, Midget Digits, Tiny Lucky 13's, Hula Poppers, Punkinseeds, Bayou Boogies, Ranger's, Paul Bunyun Lucky 66, and some old one time Heddon's who's name escapes me. ;)

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Don't leave out the Lazy Ike. For anyone wanting to start using some old school baits, you can find these on the cheap and they work like the dickens!

Talk about a wobble, you can't get a bigger wobble. And talk about some classic colors? Wow man!

I'm sure you guys remember the Crazy Crawler. Caught a lot of bass on the small lakes and ponds I used to fish in the mid to late 70's. Nothing like topwater.

Man that brings back some memories. I can't tell you how many fish I caught on a Zebco 33 with the line that came on it from the store and a Lazy Ike.
