I need assistance finding oblong jig head molds to tye maribou jigs 1/8 & 1/16 primarily. I have a round head mold in hand that I haven't used yet and prefer a slightly flatted round for jig fishing and can't seem to find one.

Additinally, if anyone has opinions on hook brand and quailty I would appreciate those as well. The jigs I currently buy are Mustad hooks which I understand might be the best. Cheap source for powder paints, tread and maribou would be awesome.

Thx

I sometimes put the round heads in a vice and smooch the sides in a bit more like an asprin. As far as a mold, you should go to the Do-It web site and see if they make what you want.

For hooks the best deal around is Shorty's Hook sales. He has lots of brands.

Basic powder paint colors can be bought at Harbor Freight Tools Sales for $5 per pound. Otherwise Protech will sell to you for $15-20 per pound.

For the thread and maribou check with Tim's fly shop and Back Country Outfitters.

I sell them at the shop and online.

Or you can get them from where I get them but I have more colors than http://ejigs.com.

As for heads, I have them too but they aren't cheap. I can't get unpainted heads.

Correction- I sell the jigs and jig heads, not the molds.

you might check Barlow tackle, they have a web site. They carry quite a few molds.

Powder painted heads look good, but they won't catch you more fish than painted.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Thanks everyone for the great information. I buy most of my jigs at White River Zig Jigs. They are IMO the best. When I don't think ahead or conditions change for different colors, I buy them at your shop Phil. Wayne I just requested one of their catalogues yesterday and look forward to getting it. Dutch you let the cat out of the bag buddy, thanks a millon. I'm going to have some time on my hands over the winter to try tying these things. I'm sure I will have plenty of mistakes and lots of questions. Great video Phil on tying them.

Sincerely,

BRBF

Good move getting the Barlow catalog. That was going to be my suggestion and Wayne hit it on the head.

Wayne can you explain this in more detail. I bounce mine hard off the bottom most of the time so I was thinking powder paint would hold up better, btw I have caught fish on jigs with no paint left so it's not that important just curious.

Hey Bird,

Go to Joes Old Lures...a collectors site, they sell lots of stuff.

Go to the message part and about 80 names down the list or so there is a guy, Brian Fowler, who has some molds for sale.

Not sure what they cost new but I think he's got em priced right...be worth checking out.
