Members mburk5 Posted October 16, 2009 Members Posted October 16, 2009 Had the day off today and had a itch to do some fly fishing, although crane creek is only 5 miles from my house I havent been fishing on it since March,I decided to fish the upper part of wire road, the water was down a bit but still running pretty fast from the last rains, had a hard time getting around and across but I finally found a good hole that had a few fish I could see so I snuck around and dropped a copper john in and caught a 14 incher,I guess I was so excited I was going fishing this morning I forgot my camera .I was really surprised how much water went through there from the floods, those are some really tuff fish!!! Anyway I'm so glad we are still able to enjoy those really special fish, and hope they are still around a hundred years from now for people to enjoy. God Bless, Mike
Danoinark Posted October 16, 2009 Posted October 16, 2009 I am going soon. In all my years around here I have never fished Crane. Hopefully one of you Cranites will be around to show me my way.... Dano Glass Has Class "from the laid back lane in the Arkansas Ozarks"
Members jefly77 Posted October 17, 2009 Members Posted October 17, 2009 Crane is a beauty!! I have only lived in the area for a little over a year and I have already fished Crane at least two dozen times and every time I do I love it. Sometimes I only catch one or two and a few times I have caught a bunch. Even if I caught none, it would be worth it. I like that you really have to walk A LOT if you want to get to all the good holes. It's jungle fishing in the summer and cold as #$@! in the winter, but if you go on the right days and times, you can have the creek all to yourself, or nearly so. I wish I could launch my canoe at the deep hole by the trailer at the end of the MDC land. I have seen a couple of big boys down there pushing 24-25". No lie, I know what I'm talking about, I have C&Red 2 Crane fish over 20" in the past year and several more close to that. It's a great little place to fish. Jfly

God Bless, Mike By wild trout creek standards, a 14" is almost a trophy. Great catch. Hope folks will still be able to catch wild trout in Crane here in a couple years with this whole dam idea.
OKFlyFisher44 Posted October 17, 2009 Posted October 17, 2009 How'd the creek look? Was it still really off-color? Or was it just running a little high but was kinda clear? Chance ...I'm haunted in my dreams of waters I have yet to fish and trout I have yet to catch... Chasing the Dream...

Of course, it's probably been a couple of decades since two dudes have fished Crane, both using Glass rods!

It was almost clear and running high, some of the holes that were there last year are filled with gravel,at least at the upper end,the upper parking lot is washed out and tuff to get in but it looked like they were getting ready to fix it
