Has anyone ever fly fished on any of the islands in Hawaii? I am heading out there this week and am looking to book a bonefishing trip on Kauai. I'm headed to Oahu and Kauai. If anyone has any tips or advice, I'd be very grateful. Thanks.

Good luck. I tried to hook up a flyfishing trip when I went there many years ago. Never did find anything that looked legit. Ended up on a deep sea charter and had a blast catching mahi mahi, tuna and one small swordfish. I saw a show once about bonefishing in Hawaii but it didn't look to be as reliable as the Bahamas. There really weren't any flats like in the Carribean.

If you go, post up a report. I'd like to hear how you did. With cool pics too.

I didn't even know that there were bonefish in Hawaii. Like SIO3 said, the beaches there go deep very quickly. You can't walk out a long ways like you can in the caribbean. I need to look again, but I don't recall seeing any charter trips targeting bonefish there. Guess there might be though....

There are bonefish in Hawaii. Even catchable on Oahu and there are guides available these days.

We caught them incidentally but seldom fished a bait they would be interested in. (shrimp cost too much money) I cut teeth saltwater and the target species was mullet because of the money. All of it was night fishing. 90% of the fish can be caught from a loaf of bread. (chum was free stale bread from the chow hall, fresh bread for the hooks) Daytime trips my friends or brother & I were almost always after barracuda or shark. Much more exciting when you're just a kid.
