rps Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 All joking aside, I have a short, wide hand. When I learned on a Shakespeare, I used my right hand to control the spool handle, and trigger. I used my left hand on the butt for leverage and direction control. I hate pistol grips and use a 9 to 11 inch straight butt so I can use my left hand, even on light BC rigs. The only time I one hand cast is when I underhand loop cast. I did not start palming until low profiles came out. Then I switched from holding the rod ABOVE the spool on retrieve to palming. This also explains why I dislike the Bass Pro Power hump. By now, muscle memory is so embedded change would be very nearly impossible.
