We've been extracting large crappie from submerged trees by slow trolling (w/elec. t-motor) a 1/8 oz jig. Keep boat in 32 feet of water and go about

1 mph.... MOST of the time, you'll be running just outside the visible tree line. 10/4 Fireline will get most of your hang-ups back with a straightened hook. Jig body of choice...?? Swimmin' Minnow. It doesn't get much simpler then that.

Well..... This post didn't exactly set the forum on fire.....

That's OK. It leaves more of these little panfish for me.

Caught three more this evening in about 45 minutes. Dang it's almost COLD out there.

martin,

I visit TR nearly every June and have never caught a Crappie. I mostly fish the main lake points or the cedars in Cow and little Cow creeks. Do you have success w/ crappie at that time of year? Any tips appriciated.

Thanks.

Kicknbass, by June my crappie fishing is usually over with. By June it'll be either trolling for walleyes or whites. (depending on what lake I'm fishing). June is also a great time to catch some nice Flatheads. I'm sorry I'm not much help with the June crappie. I just never had tried it at that time of year.

Martin,

Have you been fishing in Indian or north little indian this year. I fish in there for bass but not crappie, just always pass it by.

Martin,

I might be crazy, but that picture of yours looks like you are holding a giant black crappie. Sorry if this is a stupid question, but what kind of fish is that? How many lbs and inches?

Indians I don't think have the structure Martin's talking about... higher bluff banks, deep water with timber. Some of the other branches do like Long, Kings, James, Cows and Spring and the main lake.

I'm fishing long narrow coves that have pretty steep banks. You can find them in quite a few creek arms in the lower lake. I'm not REAL familar with the Indians but they would probably hold some crappie.

LWW, that is an extra large crappie. I didn't weigh it but I should have. It was about 15 1/4 inches long. I've caught longer crappie but never caught a heavier crappie. I've been trying to keep track of white crappie vs black crappie. We have been catching 99% white crappie. The big one in the photo was very hard to tell. At first glance, I thought black crappie but upon close inspection, some faint bars were visible. I'm still not totally sure which it was.

I blanked this morning before work. darn fish.....

Where do you think the crappie go during the summer on the Rock? Deeep. I guess. I have trolled during June and caught quite a few white bass. Mostly out on the main lake gravel points. I never have caught any walleye on TR. How do you troll for them?

Thanks.
