dwiebenga Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Well, I enjoyed myself as usual on the lake. Going down for fish for a few days is one of my favorite activities of the year! 10/24-- Started our pretty slow up by Campbell Point. Then I nailed a nice keeper Spot on a Wiggle Wart. Then, I caught the biggest bass I have caught on the Rock three casts later. I caught a 21" 4.6 lb LM in about 8 feet of water. My next fish was a 3 lb LM on a War Eagle blade. Caught that one out of a bush. The rest of the day I caught a few non keepers on FB jigs and C-rig. 10/25--Tried a litte top water right off the bat. Caught a nice keeper Spot on a LC Wake Bait. Then, I went down the White River around Pt. 22 and caught a nice 15" SMJ on a FB Jig. Caught a few more on the FB jig, but that was the last keeper of the day. 10/26--Tough day today, I only caught 3 short Spots today. Unfortunately, my trip was called short due to some bad news from home. One of the assistant principals at Blue Springs HS passed away unexpectedly, and we had to reschedule our match with them for tomorrow. He was only 41, and it is a hard reminder for how lucky I am to have the opportunity to fish this weekend. May the Lord be with him and his family. See you all in March, and certainly in April!!!! Dave
troutgnat Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Nice catch on a crank........I love fishing crankbaits. And you caught him on a Wart, well done. Looks like a phantom green craw.........? gitnby Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Nice catch on a crank........I love fishing crankbaits. And you caught him on a Wart, well done. Looks like a phantom green craw.........? I fished from 2:30 PM -6 Pm Saturday from Fisher Creek up to Pt 9, hit about 4 or 5 of my favorite spots. Found a nice flat near bluff end and caught a 3.4 and 3.7 SMJ on a rig in 18-20'. Several shorts on a jig, and one MONSTER LM that broke me off at the boat on a smoke w/red flake 4" grub. He was sittin in about 3-4' right next to a a pile of "stuff" that was floating in a little cut on a bluff wall. Caught quite a few more K's on that wall on the grub. 2 keeps. They would come out and get it as soon as I let it drop off the ledge. Moved out and tried the drop shot. 1 more keeper and the biggest bluegill I've seen in a while? the next 2 weeks should be interesting? Fish seem to be scattered at all depths?
Whack'emGood Posted October 27, 2009 Posted October 27, 2009 Congrats on the 4.6 Dave! Nice fish. If I can't catch them on the conventional tackle that I already use, then I guess I just can't catch them." -LK (WHACK'EM)
Members eshay Posted October 28, 2009 Members Posted October 28, 2009 The week of 10/19 - 10/25 I was practicing for and participating in the MOBASS State Championship. The majority of fish that I caught were on brown/orange or green/orange Eakins jigs with a green pumpkin twin-tail trailer. The size of the jig was dependant on the depth of water being fished. The fish were primarily on gravel banks and under boat docks in 8-30' of water. The water was clouded with the abundant sediment that is currently suspended. I spent a lot of time between Baxter and Shell Knob, and averaged 3-5 keepers a day and 15-20 shorts too. Had a 4.25 LM, a 3+ jaws and several 3+ spots throughout the week. Lost what I feel was a really big jaws when it pulled off a jig. I was able to locate a spinnerbait bite up by Big M (clearer water) on chunk rock or trees in the wind and with cloud cover. Similar areas produced topwater fish too. Spent Saturday throwing jigs on an open gravel bank and pitching them into boat dock stalls. This produced 3 keepers. Sunday, I could not buy a jig bite, so I changed to a white spoon (on advice from a friend) in the same areas and caught 4 keepers. These 7 went 15.68 and good enough for 6th place. Hope this helps. Great forum, keep up the contributions.
Members co-angler Posted October 28, 2009 Members Posted October 28, 2009 nice stringer. congrats. I am going to be fishing the heartland kickoff this weekend on the rock as a co-angler. Have no control on where but throwing the right bait helps to know.
