A lot can change between now and then, but there will still be some fish spawning. Usually for me, the first week of May is when I like to bulge a spinner bait just under the surface. And, the redfin is usually a pretty good bet over trees adjacent to spawning areas. I would go up into Schooner Creek, White branch, Fisher Creek and Mill Creek. Should be a good time for Carolina rigging a lizard or some creature bait? and, it seems like they’ll always hit a split shot rig with a fish doctor, centipede, etc. this is that time of the year when you can throw the whole tacklebox at em. can’t really do much about the weather, but when you get some bad weather, I would back out a little bit and concentrate on pole timber and brush i’ve caught some good fish in the rain, running a spinner bait along side of pole timber or on secondary points with some wind Ned rig is always good, but it can be hard to throw and feel if it’s windy? keep checking this page and others because the weather between now and then could definitely affect where the fish will be that week. The really nice thing about Table Rock is you have three species whose spawns overlap and you’ll always be able to find fish in different stages of the spawn Enjoy your time here and catch some fish!

That’s funny. I found the exact same thing. found tons of shad, but nothing feeding on them. tomorrow, I’m gonna try the jerk bait and the a rig on Bluff ends, and maybe crank some of the transition banks on either side of Main Lake points

Had similar results up here on the James. Fished gravel flats between docks.

Went out about 3 o’clock yesterday afternoon and fished for three hours. Found a long narrow Cove near point 11. The spots were ganged up in there and I caught 25+ fish. Only 2 keepers, and lost one at the boat that was probably a three pounder+. all of them were fat and sassy, and were between 13 and 16 inches. Cove was about 25 to 30 feet deep, and the fish were coming up to bust the shad and I was getting them with a Kaitech swim bait with underspin. water temp was between 58 and 59. With full sunshine today, I assume those fish and some bigger ones will move in a little more?

Why not check with some of the few remaining resorts on the lake? Schooner Creek, Lakeside, Hideaway, Double Oak, etc They might give you a decent price for a long-term rental, as I would guess they get more short-term stays in the Spring? They have slips you can keep your boat in, gas docks nearby, etc.

Had a good FB jig bite on Saturday between 1 and 4 PM. Overcast with bit of light rain. using 1/4 oz and 5/16 PB&J with green pumpkin speed craw. Best bite was on steep banks and ledges, and behind deep docks. Nothing huge, but several 14"-17" fish almost all K's and brownies. Agree with Bo about fish pinning the jig! Missed a few by setting too quickly. seems like the brownies would just pick it up and run with it and never felt the "tick"?

Had a couple of pins break off on the transducer receptacle on my fishfinder on the pontoon boat. Anyone have an old 240 they want to get rid of? Might be able to take the receptacle off of a nonworking one And put it on mine? Or, does anyone know if the transducer plug for the 240 fits other Garmin models? Would prefer her not to have to buy another type and run the transducer wire again

That's my Brother and his family. He's a Marine, and she's from Denmark! So, not a big deal for them?

The kids caught several nice fish! Spots, LM, a flathead and a channel cat. Bass were hanging between 22-26' on points. They had a blast!

Thanks, Bill! You still recommend 'fizzing' , if necessary? I've done it several times, but don't fish deep as much as I used to.

We are up the James right by Hideaway Marina. Point 11 is probably a good place to start.

I haven’t been out in a while, but have my two young nephews coming in this weekend to fish. Thought I would get a few boxes of nightcrawlers and let them have some fun? Was planning on sitting on some gravel points and rolloffs in 20 to 25 feet or maybe some bluff ends? Does that sound about right? Any help or ideas would be appreciated!

I like it! The guys with power poles could mount them on a pivot, and flip em up in the air with advertising flags on the tip when they're runnin down the lake!

Great idea! Take a set of power poles, turn them upside down and stick them in the ground! Then you can raise or lower them to get the best placement for the birds or the wind?

I have Century Link DSL (phone line) up here by Hideaway Marina. No issues with streaming movies on Amazon firestick, and solid service so far. Never tested the speed, but listed as 40MB. Very happy with it. $55/month including their modem/router.

Loved when that salt would collect around the lid, and then you needed vise grips to get it off. And, yes, some of the older original glass jars will bring a few bucks. Anyone else remember the days that a jig and eel was the "go-to" bait on Table Rock? Really, not much different than the wobblehead a lot of guys use these days?

I first fished with Bill Beck back in 1977, and many times after that. Spoon, Fat Gitzit, Road Runner,Brown plastic worm, Devil's Horse, Redfin, Green Pumpkin Fish Doctor and a smoke grub. Man, we caught some fish on those baits. And, you're right, Bill was not a big fan of 'crossin their eyes'. Said he lost more fish by setting the hook than by letting the fish set it.

The last time I spent that much for somethin on a pole was at a guy's night out in Sauget, Illinois. Had to go to 3 different banks to get that many dollar bills!
