Heading down to Wildwood Lodge to hear the Ozark Mountain Daredevils on Thurs night. Planning on trying to find somewhere to fish on Friday as weather looks good all week. I have never fished near Steeelville. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Not very familiar with that strech...might call wildwood and get some advice. Have you been there before?

Wildwood is a neat old place and the OMD have to be one my all time favs. Will be a great show. I still blow on a harp a little..."Chicken Train", "If You Want get to Heaven" well...hard to beat in my book.

"The Dilliards" if you're familiar or even care, lol grwe up in the same town I live in.

Knew their whole family ans still see one of em here and there.

Their old song "What's Time to a Hog" another classic.

Didn't mean to jump track here but gettin to the point If I don't say somthing while it's fresh, pooooof...it's gone.

Just curious, while it's on my mind, lol... do any more of you older fellows experience this stuff or is it just me?? Whatever the case You guys got any ideas/suggestions my old ears are wive open.

Back on topic about the only section of the river is real high uo on it. From Dents Ford down to around Cooks Station. Bar none that strech of river has produced an amazing amout od huge smallis, gogs...pretty much all naive commonly caught in our region of the state. Gotta hunch a few of you are familiar and even fewer have floated/fished it much at all.

How many times you floated it Al ?. Your one on here that I think if a stick flaoted in it you'd give er a try, lol.

later on

My friends say I'm a douche bag ??

Call marty at westoverfarms.com for a pay to fish for trout area. Or Meramec springs could work but water with still be some what dingy(may make fishing good). Pay $5 and access the huzzah valley resort.com huzzah creek area. Just quick spots off the top of my head. Get a county map and go county bridge fishing around steelville.

Well the canoe rental signs are pretty hard to miss in Steelville, you pass one about every mile, but many of them are closed for the year now. Don't know what kind of fishing you're looking to do, but you have a lot of options. Trout around the park or smallmouth anywhere around Steelville on the Huzzah, Courtouis, and Meramec. If you're looking to do a float (rental or shuttle), call Skip at Green's Canoe (573) 775-5595. He's open year round and he'll take you where ever you want around that area. Be sure to call him at least a day in advance to set something up.

Report back on the fishing!

Yeah, I've floated those upper end sections. They used to be better than they have been in recent years.

If interested in smallmouth, though, the river above Maramec Spring will be fishable. Probably a little iffy below the Spring. Huzzah and Courtois should be in pretty good shape by then. Wading in the trout water will probably be limited due to the high water levels, even if the river is clear enough to fish there.

I saw the Ozark Mountain Daredevils at Wildwood last year about this time. Great show. One of my all-time favorite bands. I could listen to them and the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band and be happy for a long time. Saw the Dirt Band out in Montana this past summer. Wish we were going to the OMD gig this time.

Don't forget your bell bottoms, embroidered peasant shirts. leather jewelry, and a peaceful vibe. Ponytails on men of a certain age are OK, I guess. For some reason I thought OMD and the NGDB were on the same bill at the Mississippi River Festival in the mid 70s. Oh well. Trout fishing will probably be your best bet, unless you're hell-bent on floating. Good luck, have fun.

AH The Darlings from Andy Griffith show always crack me up!! The boys didn't have much to say!!!

Al - We were going to see the Dirt Band in Powell Wy in July. Drove 2 hours and found out we were a day early!!!

Still need help if I have anyone's attention.

We've had a change of plans. We are going to head south and try to fish Current from Welsh Springs to Akers. Only a couple miles. My map is confusing though. It shows the Welsh Spring access on south side of river. Can I get to Welsh Spring heading south from Salem on K? I have driven that way once before and seem certain that there is an access on the north side of the river. And will anyone from Akers Ferry give me a shuttle?

Thanks in advance,

Mark
