Well said friend. I resemble part of that....lol

Well Cricket if you wanted to pay something back. You could show up. I mean honor us with your presence. At yet another "undisclosed location" say new years eve or day or both as the hardcore do. And freeze your butt off with a bunch of us.

Just saying.....

That's on the list as well, buddy.. For sure. And I am truly sorry I have missed the OAF events. I don't even have a freakin' hat yet, and I promised myself I was buying one of those! lol

thanks for the comment, you do resemble part of that (and as usual, my conversation with an intellectual opposition helped change my mind a bit regarding that issue)..

Peace, see ya soon hopefully...

Cricket.

I might add one thing and that is you are a great asset to this forum also. Your post states what makes this a daily stop for me and often several times a day. Some of the posters have little to gain personally but freely share their expertise and advice. After nearly 60 years of fishing I am humbled often to learn something new like just yesterday Mike Davis mentioned an anvil egg fly. Never heard of it but after looking it up it will be on my fly tying list for this winter fly tying.

Thanks for reminding us.

Wow, thanks Thom! I hope that if anyone here picks up anything from me (besides maybe a few laughs) it's the simple ideal I outlined above about being good to one another. You are all great people, even if we have our differences at times, and I am glad to have this line of communication with you all.

In the past two years that I have been reading and participating in this forum I have learned so many things, had so many great trips, gained so many great friends... I have stood on the shoulders of genius for every fish I have ever hooked..

I find myself constantly wanting to give a little thanks here and there, but I don't want to clutter forum conversations and I dont think it would be possible to send a note to each and every one of you that I have learned something from.. Thus the reason for this thread.

A friend who is tireless in his efforts to help me learn the delicate art of fly fishing. Priceless.

The general and specific encouragement of the members here. I can't tell you what a difference it makes to have an experienced angler comment that "you're casting is looking great! You've really taken to that fly rod, haven't you!". It's the difference between having a decent day of fishing and walking back to the truck on cloud 9.. Priceless

On this forum you ask a question about a specific knot and three different people immidiately reply or PM with not only am answer, but a link to a diagram and a suggestion of two simpler knots that work just as well! Tell a member you are interested in learning more about casting techniques and he literally PM's you an essay of EXTREMELY useful information! Priceless.

Ask a guy to go fishing with you and he not only brings along two of each fly he has tied (or lure he has bought) but when lunchtime rolls around he offers you half his sandwich! Priceless.

Just browsing the forum you find a bit of advice that one member gave to another last year. You use that same technique (that has never occurred to you) and just tear up a hole that has never produced fish before! Priceless.

You get on the river with one of these guys and get to talking about politics or something.. The two of you disagree on an issue on a fundamental level (ultimate gun control vs. No gun control).. You agree to disagree and then he asks if you want to step into his spot and try and catch this lunker he can't hit)... Nothing stands between fishing buddies. Priceless.

You announce to someone that your gonna be in their neck of the woods the next day to go floating and they immidiately give you directions to the best hole on that stretch (resulting in a hook up of a miassive fish and a lifetime memory), and then apologizes cause he can't come along! Priceless

There are many more examples, but you get the idea. This forum is full of great people. We don't all agree on everything, but we agree on this:

Fishing is a great part of life, and carries it's own lifestyle. Be good to your fellow fisherman, be good to your waterways. Enjoy yourself. Be thankful, not just in November, but every single day of your life, with every breath you take.

Thanks again, sincerely, to every fisherman that has helped me along the way. Thanks in advance to all who will do so in the future.

Agreed. I know I tend to argue quite a bit on this forum, but I can tell you that I have learned a lot from even the folks that I disagree with the most. Thanks to all that have been so helpful. Just reading the site really has helped shorten the learning curve for fishing around this area, and I sure appreciate that.

Very well said Cricket. Most have covered my thoughts.....but to add.

A forum is a unique entity. You can never add anything to it, but learn much. The truth though, is you get as much as you put in. This goes far beyond posting. This is meeting fishing buddies, swapping fly/lure tricks, etc, etc. This is a great place and much, much can be learned. I learn new things everyday.

FishinCricket,

I have to say that was a great post. I think it a great honor when a person is willing to give up some of their knowledge to help another person that is looking for advice.

In my life (before reading this forum) so far there have been only 10 people that have help better my ability to catch fish. Have I ask advice from others?.... Yes. Have they ignored my request....yes.

So that brings me to the "CLASS ACT" of people on this forum. They are willing to help a fellow person out. I thank everyone here and I especially thank Phil for making this a reality!

I agree. There have been many who've given great advice on here and on the stream. We're also lucky to be in a place where we can fish so much of the year. I recall fishing the Current in January last year. That's not the case in many places west and north of this region.
