Bill,

I know you have used a 520C before, what type of settings should it be on to best "see" in the 50 ft. plus range?

Foz, you bet I have. I have one on the Stratos and one of the colsole of the Champ. They are just as good a unit as the 37C. How to set it up is very easy, run your chart speed and ping speed full, your grayline at 70% or so, water clarity a clear, sensitivity depends on your tranducer, I have a hot shot and am still sit on 60%. You can go up as high as you need. Surface is at 10' bottom at 80' and you can use the split screen and scrool up or down on your picture. I will usually zoom in 1 time.

If you can't get it, I would be more that happy to sit it for you if you bring it by. The 520 LCG is fantastic. There is no reason to spend more money, it is the bomb.

Incredible, Bill. Retirement and building down there was put off till June with the economy, but plan on starting the project in the fall. 2011 or BUST!

Those graph pics are just great. Questionfor you if you can share. The bottom pic--is that taken at higher speed, slow trolling to locate, or just crawling along to home in on the school? I guess my mind blowing question is HOW BIG ARE THOSE SCHOOLS? Are we talking 10 sq. yards, an acre, or even bigger?

Thanks for all on the site who give a Chicago guy a nice fishing fix via all of your posts and info. This is the best site I have found.

For sure my first order of business when I get down there is to spend a day with you on the water. That deep water still has my kinda scared! Heck, the lakes I fish aren't much deeper than 20 ft. or so---I know a lot of learning is going to have to take place.

Bill Those pic's are just maybe 30 seconds or so apart, as we get ready and then drop on the schools. We are positioned directly over the fish in both pic's.

Just a guess, but that school, probably had 50 plus Whites.

Went back and tried to count the lines, and I believe at least 40 blew up in the one cone and really could not tell the number in the other. There is also still the blanket on the bottom of fish, that didn't fire up. Conservitive guess is probably 100 plus fish inside that cone at the 50 ft. depth mark. My guess, probably twice that.

Bill,

Thanks for the help. I do need to stop by your place, J. Raz says it is sure nice down there. Usually by this time of year the boat is a staging area for all my deer hunting clothes, but this year I can't shake the fishing bug.

Just a hint to you, I heard through the grapevine that B. Beck has a freezer full of sirloins. I'd make sure he doesn't hold back on you.

Them sure are some nice fish now all I got to do is get my dad off the couch and take him out I think I could use a limit of whites. It sure is nice to see what your keying in on when graphing these fish.Means alot to those who have never had any one to teach them every one learns some where.

Hey Bill - I'm running a 12-year-old Humminbird on my console, and I sure want to replace it before spring. I'm real interested in your recommendation as I think the depthfinder you're talking about may be within my price range.

You mean the 520C Lowrance, right? That's a 5" screen color rig that includes GPS, per my Google search. I couldn't find the letters LCG associated with those, but I expect that just means "liquid crystal graph" or something similar?

Some of the depthfinders I found have different numbers and letters besides 520C in their listing. Could you tell me just which model it is you like so well? That'd be a big help. Thanks.

The Beckster and I hit the Water this Sunny December 1st. 2009 at ll AM. Didn't take us long and it really should not take you long to find fish, on a lake that is bank full of feeding agressive fish.

So, Bill. I believe you said you and Becky. How come you don't let her hold fish in the pics? Bet she caught some. :D

Sorry, couldn't resist.

Guess you know you have given Champ spoon fever. You should see the new inventory. I've not ever spooned much, but he's taking me out tomorrow. Hope I need BenGay at the end of the day. lol

Take care.

Donna, by the Beckster, I ment Bill. I have not only asked Becky but have also asked that stick in the mud Phil Lilley about a 1/2 dozen times to go, but can't seem to get those two on the pond.

Phil emailed that he has a touch of the flu, so maybe if it warms up some next week and he is over his sniffels we can shoot some video.

I know James wants to fish the Kings, this weekend. Have a good trip, I'm sure you will do great.
