Members Scudz Rule Posted January 1, 2010 Members Posted January 1, 2010 Hello, I think Gavin is trying the old crowded scare tactic. It won't work on me and my son. We will be camping in tent no heat. So if its crowded I will Eat my hat. Fly Fishing in teens and 20's is tough. Why would you say that? Crowded.. what is crowded to you??? And to say don't go below bAPTIST CAMP LOL? Why? so you can have it alone? If I see you below baptist and 2 other anglers I will give you 20.00. What do you consider crowded? 2-3 anglers??? To me crowded is anyone but me and my son. So don't let his scare tactic stop anyone. Anyway have fun, stay warm, start early and fish all day till dark. Happy New Year!

Members Catchabiggen Posted January 2, 2010 Members Posted January 2, 2010 I may see you out there on Sunday or Monday, I'm contemplating going to Montauk and/or the Current. 2 of us fished below Baptist on Wednesday for about 5 hours and could not figure out the bite. We saw some feeding fish including a rainbow probably in the 24" range with 2 others about 20". They kept feeding on something on the surface but i could not figure out what it was. I had 1 follow an elk hair caddis out but didn't take. Then it felt like a front had just blown in and they completely shut off. I threw my whole box at them and they would not take. We found a brown about 5lbs but couldn't get it to take either. Tough day out there. There was a group of 4 vehicle up around Tan Vat with 1 from MN. I bet they were there for at least a few days and were working it over pretty good. The river is in good shape.

Gavin Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Hey Scudz, keep your $20 and spend it on a self help book. Dale Carnegie comes to mind. We had a bunch in camp this weekend. 6 guys camped above Tan Vat on New Years Eve, and we had 14 in camp, 2 holes below Ashley on Friday Night. Got off the river at Parker at 2pm Sunday. We didnt see anyone else on the river this weekend, so I guess you took my advice. Those who fished did pretty well on Thursday, Friday, & Saturday. Really slow on Sunday AM. Lots of folks caught fish...and some big ones too. Ran into Sam Potter while we were retrieving our cars from Tan Vat around 2:15pm on Sunday..he said fish were rising to small olives.. Will post some pics later.
Members Scudz Rule Posted January 6, 2010 Members Posted January 6, 2010 Hello, Thank you Gavin for the Dale Carnegie info. He is a great writer. I did not eat my hat either. We fished upper Current below Montauk, and below Tan vat. Sat and Sun. all the cars at Tan Vat kinda freaked me out. But realized they were not bank anglers, cuz we saw NO FISHERMAN. Now if I were to have taken your advise and go way below Baptist, we may have run into your camp Because when we (my son and I) go below baptist we usually go below Ashley creek to the MBZ. MID BLUFF ZONE. It's a long walk but usually get nice Browns. It's about the same distance if you walk up from Parkers. But I new you all would be in that area, so thanks for sharing your plans. Sunday was great. Caught some nice bows in the snow. Almost every Fly I presented RIGHT got bit. My son kicked my butt as usual The snow made it so much better, wasn't much, but made it even more peaceful. Sure didn't want to leave. I even fished the Spring Branch in the park. It was actually a blast. We had the branch to ourselves, and caught nice fish on a variety of lil stuff. 22-24 midges etc. The cold made it a lil tough to work with the 6x and 7x. Looks like your group did well. Great way to start the New Year. Scudz
