Since its too cold to actually do much in the way of fishing, I figured I'd ask what your guys' favorite fishing destination is in the U.S. Mine personally is the southwestern part of Montana. You just can't beat the trout fishing up there with the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Bitterroot, Jefferson, and all their tributaries. Second in my opinion would be the Adirondacks in New York. You have pretty awesome fishing up there for everything from native brookies to smallmouth bass and pike, in just about every water type imaginable

Guess mine would be right here in the 4 state area. We got it all here! For a long distance trip it would be the Gulf Coast, salt water fishing.

I like it here, but i might be prejudiced. If I were to take a long trip, it would be back to the John Day river in Oregon, one of the best smallmouth rivers.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

I've been out west a few times and fished - most recently to Colorado and the RMNP. I love it and we are planning another trip out West somewhere this coming summer. BUT that said I like the fishing here best. My favorite destinations here are Taneycomo, the Arkansas tailwaters, and the upper Current. Those are just hard to beat in my opinion.

I moved here specifically because of the diversity of the fishing. Well, it wasn't the only reason, but it was the top one. I do like some more Rocky Mountain flyfishing, but on my to-do list is Great Lakes area Steelhead and King Salmon, plus Lake Erie Smallmouths. Maybe some fly-in Pike fishing in "The Great White North".

Someday.

Given the chance to choose any trout destination in the continental U.S., I would choose Missouri and Arkansas. You would be hard pressed to top what these two states have to offer. If you want size or just sheer numbers, they have it all.

Ditto's.

I would like to try the Steelheads out west though.

I agree. I love the ozarks. But one does sometimes feel the urge to hike into to a little mountain stream and fish for native cutthroat and brookies, or something like that. The ozarks is really nice as sort of a bread and butter place to fish, but I find I need to do some real mountain fishing every once in a while. Not this time of year though. :cold:

I am partial to the waters of my youth. Lake erie tribs fishing for steelhead. I go back every fall and will continue to go back until I am just to dam old (not too far in the distant future). I would like to go back to Canada on a fly fish only Musky/pike/smallmouth trip. We'll see. So much water, so little time.

There's always more to the fishing than just the fishing to me. Which is another reason the Ozarks is tough to beat. Scenery as good as anywhere, and not as crowded as some other places. Outside the Ozarks, I love Montana for trout fishing, Alaska if you really want spectacular rainbows. For smallies, I agree with Wayne, the John Day in Oregon has perhaps the best combination of gorgeous, interesting scenery and terrific fishing. Maine may have some of the best stream smallmouth fishing anywhere. Minnesota and Wisconsin are a close second. I just don't like the scenery in those places quite as much.
