Let's Talk Fly Boxes

After all these years of using plastic boxes and just throwing my flies all together in several compartments I want to get new boxes. I want it to be water proof, lightweight and good for nymphs and streamers. Fire away with what you guys think are best.

I've used the C&F Design boxes, I use both the waterproof boxes, and the C&F Design Magnetic Hook Pallets!

The C&F magnetic hook boxes are AWESOME for your smaller wet flies and nymphs. Smaller being about a 12 and under. Almost unbeatable for midges and scuds. Plus, you can stuff a million of those boxes in you pack compared to others. Real space savers.

I love the Flambeau water proof box........1 side has little compartments with lids for the small stuff and the other side will handle all the streamers you could want. Just bought a C&F magnetic hook box, looks great takes up 0 room and will hold lots of small stuff as mentioned in a previous post. I don't think you can beat these two boxes

What ever you do make sure they fit easily in their pockets. My old vest is challenged in this regard.

I got gifted some of the Scientific Anglers clear plastic ones they are pretty sweet. But don't fit very well. I have been looking for the past year for new pack options.

If you haven't seen the new umpqua fly boxes you need to

give them a look.

They come in three sizies ,three colors have two sides

see through lids and water proof.

Been using them for a few months and have been very

pleased. So check them out before you make your

choice.

I've owned a lot of different boxes in my time. Currently I like the ones with the "slit foam" design the best by far. They just hold more flies in a more organized fashion. I have a couple from C&F and one from Flambeau. Both work great.

Thanks everybody! I ordered a 16 row C&F from Cabelas with free shipping to the store. Since it was for nymphs and streamers it looked like it fit my needs. I'll let you know what I think when I get it.

I like DeWitt super light and clear boxes for dries... been using them for years. Mostly my beefy meatly heavy stuff goes into Morell foam boxes because they float when you drop them at night and you can just leave them open your car to dry out your flies. I also use the 'Tach It magnetic boxes for lots of midges and scuds and worms and stuff. They sink like a rock if you drop them though.

I tried the fancy english Wheatley window boxes. They are much better quality than any asian import bx made by leaps and bounds. They too will sink like a rock if you drop one though.

I've been wanting to try those newer thin C&F boxes... but the cost always talks me out of it. I have one of the micro slit midge boxes I bought at the catalog outlet for $5.00 still going strong.
