DD... tell me what kind of ducks those are, just seeing if I can remember from my old duck hunting days. A couple of drake mallards, maybe a hen too, a ruddy? canvasback? Probably not... just having fun guessing. Shot plenty of ducks in my younger days, especially woodies.

Nice to meet you and your wife down at RR...

Is one area better than the other - darn area?, upper end?, James? Kings?

Can you give me a hint for next year?

We have a weekend place on TR but live in KC - I do my duck hunting up that way.

Thx

You just have to find a place they like to be. There are lots of coves and points around me but only a few of them attract ducks and geese. I dont know much about the rest of the lake and what it holds.

Glad to hear someone had luck this weekend, I took a trip to a friends farm near Jonesboro this weekend and we hunted a pit blind in a flooded rice field. He said he had never gone that long in his life in Northeastern Arkansas without seeing a duck. Just glad I could be a part of history. Day 2 we thought we might have seen a duck. Twenty degrees is pretty cold when you are not shooting, but that's part of the game. Guess I should have stayed closer to home, couldn't have done worse.

Thanks DD... one of the Gadwalls was a hen I guess? And is the Golden Eye a diver and not a puddle duck?

DD... you're the one who's actually pretty good. Like I said, I miss the duck hunting. Health reasons have not allowed me to do it anymore. Can't handle the cold.

My in-laws lived on Table Rock for 20 years. Shell Knob area (Hardman Hollow). Had mallards nesting on their dock. Not very succesful hatches with the snakes intervening.

Do you hunt from a boat blind or from the bank? How deep do you need your decoy lines?

I hunt from a brush blind set up just in the water anywhere from knee to ankle deep. Decoy lines are up to 10 feet long and have to use the canoe to pick up the ones that are out in deeper water. The ducks really like to land close to shore and then head straight to the shore so the deeks dont have to be out too far.
