Fishrman Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I saw the other day where the new Yamaha is priced at $21,000 and a pkg. for example, the 21i Skeeter is over $70,000. Anyone else see these numbers? When I saw the price, I fell over. Anyone see one of these in action yet? Well just thought I would start a new topic on overpriced boats. I hope I don't get anything too stirred up. Well hope everyone had a great Holiday. See ya on the water.

If you look around you can find good deals on good boats. Becky B
Dutch Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 I have heard about the prices but am waiting for the boat show to see just how bad it is. I guess banks will have to move from 180 months to 240 with that kind of debt.

I can't imagine doing the long term thing. The amount of interest is astronomical. I know I won't look at one when it is time for the next one, in fact I think I will look used with some warranty when it is time again.
rps Posted January 3, 2010 Posted January 3, 2010 A couple of years ago I put an article on my blog page about boat choices. Check it out.
edwin Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Just not a lot of folks that can afford (or justify) a $70k boat. I happened into a deal on my Bass Cat last October. 2008 Cougar FTD, Merc 250 ProXS, high end electronics, 46 hrs on it, 3.5 yrs of warranty left on the Merc, showroom condition. I did have to drive to GA to pick it up but I paid just over half of what the original owner paid 18 months prior. With a deal like that, no way on earth I could justify a brand new rig. jeb Posted January 4, 2010 Posted January 4, 2010 Man, if that's really the MSRP on the SHO, that'd be a great deal compared to their older F's. The MSRP on the Yamaha F225 on my boat is higher than that! I'm very surprised to hear the SHO might actually be cheaper. But I agree, $70k on a bass boat and motor is a huge pill to swallow, especially in the current economic (and lending) environment. John B 08 Skeeter SL210, 225F Yamaha
Fishrman Posted January 4, 2010 Author Posted January 4, 2010 Yeah, no doubt about it, it is something new and new always costs you. I am sure their selling point will be how much money it saves you in the long run on oil and fuel and possibly maintenance. I would say that the only ones running them will be pros and the of course very wealthy. We may be able to afford one once it has been used a year or two depending on how the economy is and how used boats are being priced at the time.
techo Posted January 5, 2010 Posted January 5, 2010 I have looked at a newer faster boat every year. When we fish the tourneys we feel at a bit of a disadvantage with the 90 horse. I love my little Skeeter and I love it more everytime I look at new boat prices. I saw a clip from an old Bass Masters where they were fishing out of some small boats with small motors. I wonder why everthing got so big and fast on the first place. Tim Carpenter
Fishrman Posted January 5, 2010 Author Posted January 5, 2010 You know techo, I don't know the answer that question. When I got my first boat it was a Ranger 354XT. Had a 150 Fast Strike on it, went plenty fast and was a great first boat. Got the itch for something a little faster and bigger and moved up to a R-93 with 200 Optimax, found it was even better than the first one due to the fact it gave me more room while fishing. The 200 opti I had gps around 70-71 mph with a light load, so the need to go faster was not there anymore, just the need for more space while fishing. I am now fishing out of a Z-20 that is my father in law and it is very nice, not overly fast, but fast enough and handles rough water very well. If I could go buy today, I would go buy that 19-20 foot with no more than a 225 hp on it. In my opinion (for what its worth), that is all a person needs in our area. Sorry to ramble, have a good day.
