denjac Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 Theres tons of them up here at the I44 and 71 Junction in Missouri. Theres Coachlight Rv, Mid American Rv, Colaw Rv salvage where they have a lot of trailers they buy from insurance companys, and repo. Most have nothing wrong with them but do come with a salvage title. I bought our first one that way and sold it for $1000 less than what I paid for it 5 years later. Then theres Daves Rv consighnment and then Rv Consighment. All within 3 miles of each other. Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. brittsnbirds Posted January 11, 2010 Posted January 11, 2010 osuangler, Not having much experience my wife and I purchased our first last year. The one thing we did find was that there was many TT manufacturing companies going out of business. We based our decision on what appeared to be the most financially sound company and the trailers features (in that order). We ended up with a Forest River Wildwood 27 footer bumper. It is the cheapest of all the Forest River units as well as one of the lighter ones. So far no significant problems. I would suggest you purchase from someone that is close so that you don't have to take a day off to have it serviced if need be. I purchased mine from Olathe Kansas RV in Gardner Kansas. They are due west of my home and about 20 minutes away. They have a full service staff to include the ability to repair big diesel pushers and interiour work. I was impressed. Good luck.
Members osuangler Posted January 11, 2010 Author Members Posted January 11, 2010 Thanks guys! I will definetly look into both suggestions. I think we may end up going with a pop up. My family had one when we were growing up and really liked it. The only problem with it was breaking it down wet... Had to let it air out when we got home, no big deal really. Anywho, thanks again and we'll talk to you soon. jp Jay Parker An angler is a man who spends rainy days sitting around on the muddy banks of rivers doing nothing because his wife won't let him do it at home. ~Author Unknown
brittsnbirds Posted January 12, 2010 Posted January 12, 2010 A pop up is another thought. Costs are less to get into them, they are cheaper to pull and easier to manage. I had one before the TT. The biggest difference that I have noticed is the up keep is less on the TT. I used the PUP pretty much year round. It was a Jayco 1207, did not have a heater/furnace or hot water. Keeping the mildew and the moisture out was a huge PITA. I sure enjoy my furnace and hot showers without having to leave the TT. One thing you may consider if your looking at a PUP. There are some smaller TT that might accomodate your family. Plus there is the hi/low's as well. Lot of possibilities out there. When I got the PUP the boss said she would never camp in the thing. Now that I have my "house on wheels" I can't get it out of the drive way without her. Since it's just the 2 of us and our 3 Brittany's I guess I can fit her in..
