Geoff Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 This thread is in dedication to this thread : http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=20458 Last weekend i finally got my tying desk set up and this week has been go to town week. Friday i got some supplies and started to think. I needed something big, some flashy, an something that looks like a baitfish. Enter this: Im pretty happy with how it turned out. Its big ( 9.5" )flashly and looks like a baitfish. I also tied one in charturse and black, but for some reason my pictures i took of it didnt turn out to my standards. next i went on a foam quest, for something topwater. There was a pattern i had in mind when i started tieing this fly, but i ended up changing it alot however, the result is wonderful Tie it alittle smaller and i think thatd be a darn good bass pattern. Well let me know what you guys think. I still think i need to tie some black and red patterns similar to the top fly. "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."
zsmith62 Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Yeah, from what I can tell, a lot of the muskie patterns are pretty similar to some of the big saltwater style streamers... If I were you, I'd look at some of the fly supplier websites and see what they offer for muskie. Looks like your headed in the right direction, though if you're anything like me, you'll probably go through about 6 different prototypes of a new pattern before your finally satisfied... Keep up the good work though! Zach Smith
Flysmallie Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Good looking flies Geoff. This is a huge file but I thought you might enjoy it. Hang Time  Â

Geoff Posted January 24, 2010 Author Posted January 24, 2010 Good looking flies Geoff. This is a huge file but I thought you might enjoy it. Hang Time I did enjoy that...saved a copy actually. Thats one big gnarly fly.....i almost want to tie one just because haha. I might tinker with a few other patterns today, the only problem i have with them is that these big butt tarpon hooks aint cheap. Gavin Posted January 25, 2010 Posted January 25, 2010 Look good...hard to tell how big they are though....can you put something in the pic to show them to scale? I have a few mondo baitfish flies laying around in the basement....Will dig out an post a pic next week.
Geoff Posted January 25, 2010 Author Posted January 25, 2010 Sure i will get some pictures to scale them. The hook is a 2/0 2x short tarpon from Gamakatsu or however that is spelled. Total length on them is about 9 - 9.5" eye to tail tip "When you do things right, people wont be sure you've done anything at all."

Geoff Posted February 2, 2010 Author Posted February 2, 2010 yes they certainly are sexy hooks haha. They shouldnt be too bad to cast actually, dispite the fact they are over 9" long, they weight about the same as a dalhberg diver, or a weighted size 6 wolly bugger I'd say. if anything they are going to be too light which might make them tricky on the 8wt but we shall see. i tied up my leaders over the weekend, they are hanging from the ceiling straightening now. need to tie a couple in black and red and white and red and wait til march.
