eric1978 Posted February 5, 2010 Posted February 5, 2010 I will occasionally (couple times a week) have a "social" cigarette. Careful there. That's how my recidivism always starts. Next thing you know you'll have a pack in your pocket in preparation for those "social" cigs so you don't feel like a mooch, then you're back altogether. That's thin ice territory if you ask me, but I know how hard it is to avoid.
FishinCricket Posted February 5, 2010 Author Posted February 5, 2010 I have been using the e-cig for several months now and love it. I will occasionally (couple times a week) have a "social" cigarette. I am tickled with the savings and I can definitely tell that my shortness of breath after exercising has diminished. Good luck !!!!! good for you! I echo the other poster question in asking, which brand did you get? Do you have a two piece or a three piece? Hey Fishincricket - I hope it works out for you, good luck! Thanks! Seems to be working so far... Just found this free trial offer online this morning. I thought I'd pass it on. I'm going to try to get my wife interested in trying it too. https://www.trysmokerelieffree.com/site/index.php?subid=CD113698#tabs I would strongly suggest that you avoid any free trial offers you may find online.. I have yet to read of one good experience with a "free trial" offer online.. Maybe you'll get luckier than those I have spoken with, but the phrase "nothing in this world is free unless it cannot be bought at any price" comes to mind.. "No such thing as a free lunch" crops up in my subconscious as well.. Best of luck though, even if its a bit of an expense upfront I am swiftly becoming a believer in their ability to assist me in putting down the "analog" smokes... As of right now it's been three days since I lit a cigarette.. My senses (smell, taste) have already EXPLODED back onto the scene (my house and my Tracker both stink like an ashtray)and my wife is definitely enjoying the option of curling up close to me without having to worry about getting smoke in her face or ashes in her hair... But my boss still thinks I am an idiot who is throwing good money after bad.. That's okay though, I have a penchant for proving him wrong.. lol cricket.c21.com
Al Agnew Posted February 7, 2010 Posted February 7, 2010 I'm exceedingly glad I never smoked. The biggest reason was my mom and dad, who smoked from the time they were teenagers. I grew up in a house filled with smoke and dirty ashtrays, sat in the car just about every day choking on smoke, lived close enough to it growing up that I never realized how badly my own clothes smelled at school just because of the smoke at home. In their later years, I watched Mom and Dad try to quit multiple times. They were finally able to do it when my brother had his first child, and told them they were not welcome around the baby unless they stopped smoking. The wish to be with their grandson finally was the catalyst that made them want to quit badly enough to do it. That was over 20 years ago...and mostly too late for them. Mom died a few years ago from smoking related causes, and Dad lives on with COPD bad enough that he really should be on an oxygen tank full time, and with heart disease as well. Both quit cold turkey when they finally succeeded, and while Mom didn't seem to have too much trouble with it, Dad found that the only way he could do it was to be constantly chewing on something. He finally settled on, of all things, plastic cable ties. They are tough enough to last through some serious chewing, and don't have any real taste. Even after all this time, he still carries a couple in his shirt pocket and chews on them frequently.
FishinCricket Posted February 7, 2010 Author Posted February 7, 2010 Interesting story, Al.. (I'm told you have a few.. ) Even more interesting is the fact that the same things that drove you away from smoking in the first place (house full of smokers growing up, etc) is one of the same things that seemed to drive me to smoking.. It came naturally because I grew up around it.. Anyway, 4+ days now and these 24mg "doses" are just too intense now.. I am only a day or two away from getting in the lower dosage (8 mg) via USPS.. Then it should be smooth sailing for a few weeks, then down to the 4mg or 0mg.. Then it seems like it should be simple to walk away, having weened myself off of the nicotine gradually.. But I might still enjoy the vaporizors (sans nicotine). Is it still considered a vice if it isn't unhealthy? cricket.c21.com
bigredbirdfan Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 Is it still considered a vice if it isn't unhealthy? I believe the tar and chemicals to be the "known cargenigens" not sure nicotine has been linked to cancer.
bigredbirdfan Posted February 9, 2010 Posted February 9, 2010 I'm haven't had a cig in three days. I can't stand the taste of any cig since they went to a fire safe cigarettte and added carpet glue to them so I won't smoke them. Take two puffs and my tongue cant stand it.
FishinCricket Posted February 10, 2010 Author Posted February 10, 2010 Well I'm still doing okay after a whole week.. I have urges (like when I'm stressed, etc) but they've been easily overcome with the use of the e-cig and (of course) an amount of willpower.. Good luck, BRBF... cricket.c21.com

Yeah, I couldn't imagine how they could make a cig taste any worse, but they've accomplished it. Those FSCs are terrible. My quit date is Sunday, so I'll be joining you boys in the fight. Hang tough.
creek wader Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Just want to wish you good luck Cricket. It's a nasty smelly habit. It's going to kill me. I don't like the stale smoke smell, and bad breath. Burn holes everywhere. And as mentioned before the expense is ridiculous. I'll be working on something outside or fishing with a cig hanging out of my mouth. Smoke in my eyes. etc. Probably the worse thing is. The only thing I litter, is a butt. I feel guilty. Sometimes, I'll field dress it and put it im my pocket, so it can smell like an ash tray, too. People (family) have been getting on me lately for smoking. My company has a no smoking policy. I don't smoke in the house. So I'm outside in minus zero wind chills, just to burn one. Sometimes when I'm smoke around nonsmokers, I feel like a degenerate for smoking. I've smoked for 32 yrs., except for a 4 yr. break. I really thought I had kicked it. Until one day, a coworker fired one up. It smelled gooood, so I bummed one. It was strong and tasted bad. Funny thing, less than a month later I was back to a pack a day. Keep us posted on your progress. If it works for you, I'll give it a shot. wader
FishinCricket Posted February 11, 2010 Author Posted February 11, 2010 Thanks for sharing the story CW, it's inspiring.. I will indeed keep you updated, it's 8 days now and I still have those seven cigarettes I had leftover when I recieved my kit in the mail.. I've been trying to decide on how to best lay them to rest, just doesn't seem right to BURN them.. lol (I put "loads" in each one on the second or third day to help me avoid the temptation) it's been an experience, and of course I am quite convinced at this point that willpower has a decent amount to do with quiting.. And if that doesn't work then fooling yourself with some weird gadget is the next best thing.. Tehe cricket.c21.com
