Members SDHaze Posted May 20, 2006 Author Members Posted May 20, 2006 Crappiefisherman It is in your backyard, I apologize. I assumed you had a little piece of good living out East. Land is starting to skyrocket there also. I appreciate the house offer but I think I’ll stay where I’m at. Heck, the only thing I have around me are the 500+ new condos going up to my left and what used to be an eyesore across the lake at the 86 bridge is finally starting to look like something. I’m sitting pretty man. I’ve seen and heard of people sitting through commission meetings to get things changed or stopped around there homes and subdivisions. All have failed that I know of. I guess the commission is looking through the eyes of $$$$ and not what is best for Taney County people. It is not going to stop anytime soon, so I think we need to make what we can out of it.
vacation Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 First Off Babler, dont assume you know what I do for a living, I am not involved in real estate at all or have direct financial ties to the landing nor any family member of mine. I have been associated with Branson since 1984 and seen the growth that has taken place and allowed this little town to grow and not die like the surrounding communities b/c of economic growth and tourism. 90% of the contracters are out of towners but many of the general laborers are local. 2000+ jobs will be created b/c of the landing bringing in more and more people who live here, buy homes and pay taxes. i am involved in more things around town than most that promote branson and protecting the quality of life here. The reality is Branson is changing, the Landing is here, by no doing of me, but we need to accept it. The lake is a gift from God, we must take care of it even if it means sharing it with developers. "Do nothing out of selfish ambition or jealousy, always considering others before yourself" Phil 3. Wages in Branson have gone up 30% in the last year for blue collar work especially in the hotel/rest. business. You can go anywhere and find $8/hr work. I help many many people every week find jobs here b/c of the shortage of good help. What other town of 6000 residents has this kind of job shortage a $1.5 bil economy, or the fantastic amenities we have. It is wonderful and who has to buy a $40,000 boat? How about promoting education that will engage others to get better jobs. Hollister school has a new $10,000,000 high school, that doesnt happen in a town of just 2000 folks, better schools = higher wages = better fishing equipment. All I am saying is that we all need to get along and enjoy Branson and the outdoors w/out comprimising our quality of life and morals. Since we are growing, how about joining committees that promote life and community in Branson to our new residents.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 23, 2006 Root Admin Posted May 23, 2006 Since we are growing, how about joining committees that promote life and community in Branson to our new residents. Ooch! Get involved in community action groups and actually spend our own money and our time helping people, missions, non-profits?!?!? That just may quiet the crowd a bit.

crappiefisherman Posted May 23, 2006 Posted May 23, 2006 OH God the things I could type.10,000,000 high school., they are selling 3 bedroom homes in my neighborhood for 300.000.00 10 million dont sound like much huh.The BRANSON LANDING is here to stay.I really dont like it but it isnt mine and I didnt own any land in the area and I wasnt asked my permision. This is a double edged sword. You say the lake and the area is a gift from God,and I whole heartedly agree. But dont you think the jobs that bring good people whether they be local or from mexico, money to feed and clothe their families also gifts from God? I know residents argue they want it the way that it used to be,simpler. Well it aint gonna happen folks.I myself have lost my love for the town because of differant things that have happened in the name of the almitey dollar and nothing else. One always wants more , more , more but seldom achieve it.I myself am happy with my menial job, my lovely wife and my 3 straight A students Who by the way go to branson public schools, schools i was scared to death of because of size and new folks. Boy was I wrong.Branson has wonderful schools, staff and resources. Now heres my Pitch.............I know why there is so many jobs and no one to work,,,but the people are everywhere right? How can anyone afford to live in or around branson for 8 dollars an hour?you cant, why would anyone want to work 2 jobs to pay RENT?I also am privey to future employment numbers for the landing and one thousand of those jobs are to be our spanish speaking friends. Now how many new homes are being sold to them>?how many checks , or credit cards has your business recieved from them? These folks are smart, cash, cash , cash and they are buying land in their home country and retireing. They think we are money rich, and lazy???Well some of us are.Ha ha ha [ [
Wayne SW/MO Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 The lake is a gift from God, You are wrong Vacation, the lake was built by man, the 200 year old Oak that the landing couldn't accommodate was a gift from God. You claim that that the landing is just another natural progression in the growth of the areas popularity, but we, well some, just voted an increase in the sales tax, the reason given was it was needed for promotion of the area,......which is falling off in attraction! The biggest reason I here for people looking elsewhere is the crowds. Crowds are bad because of the number of people, but because of the lack of space for the number of people. If the powers that be thought more about bringing back the laid back, stress-less atmosphere that built Branson, everyone would be better off, except maybe the investment bankers. The type of investment and entertainment that Lilley and Babler bring will always have repeaters, unless people can't take the long periods parked on 76, trying to get to their establishments. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 24, 2006 Root Admin Posted May 24, 2006 Argument - The fact is there are those who will take the place of the persons who don't come back because of the crowds. I think that's short-sighted. It's been true up to now. Go back east and ask about Branson. the vast majority will say- 'isn't that the place where there's a little road going in, stopped up with traffic, traffic jams all the time'. I heard that personally and from many others who travel. Traffic has been bad since 1983 at least when we came and it hasn't gotten better- only for those who know the back roads and when to travel them. So with that said, traffic will sink the landing- my opinion. Tram system- they've been talking about/studying that since 1993. I don't think it will help even if they do it. Branson will never be the sleepy little town it was when we came in 1983. But one thing it still has- friendly people. Hopefully we'll hold on to that. It may be all we have that makes us different than the big tourist venues.
Bill Babler Posted May 24, 2006 Posted May 24, 2006 Vacation, Get off this fishing site. You are trying to sell Ice to Eskimos and we neither need it or want it. IF the jobs you are touting are only paying 8 dollars per hr. We don't need them or want them either. As far as being a community activest or quoting biblical scriptures no one is impressed. Words are cheap! We are all sure that you are a true philanthropist, and are securing the future of the area for no gain. If that is the case goody for you. The Landing will help and support the Landing, period. One of the chief officers for the Landing is my neighbor, if you were really what you say you are, you would know what they expect the long range outcome to be. There is only one, and everyone with one shread of intelligence knows what that is. They built on a river for a reason, and it was voted down in Rockaway two years ago. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted May 24, 2006 Root Admin Posted May 24, 2006 Getting alittle testy... let's cool the waters... so to speak. OAF is a fishing forum but this is general discussion- anything goes. Opps I just looked- this is in the Table Rock forum. I'll close this and if anyone wants to continue- start a topic in general discussions.
