My cousin and I hit MSP for a few hours on our way home from BSSP. We arrived at 1:45 and fish until 4. The current was very strong and the clarity was very greenish with about 1 foot visibility. We started down stream fist but could not find a single fish to take. So up the bridge we went. There were multiple people there but we found some room to squeeze in. My first 20 cast produced 7 fish on a Mercy Pheasant tail and scud (both were size 20. I landed a few more on Red SJW. My cousin was able to nail a few at the firs hole (we call it Lazy Man's Hole). Fishing was decent for the time we were there.

That is all for now.

Hey FFM,

Thanks for your report.

Last time I was fishing MSP I noticed survey stakes running along the spring branch. Any progress on just what they might be doing down there?

Last time I was down there, MLK weekend, I did notice they had placed a number of downed trees and rootwads in the lower end, cabling them to the streambed with large boulders. I'm not sure if that's related to the survey stakes you saw or not...

Bman,

I actually did not see any stacks at all around the spring branch. The last time I was there was back in Jan 2009 and to me it appears nothing has changed.

I did notice the cable was not across the stream and I did see this one guy throw up under the bridge a few times, but not enough for me to go over and talk to him.

PS: I sure wish they would make from the first bridge up to the falls (below the actual spring hole) fly / catch & release ONLY!!!

PS:

They remove the cable anytime they are expecting a flood. Also they cable down the picnic tables at the covered pavilions.

No kidding. That's some awesome looking water up there.

We were there also on Sunday, spring was pumping muddy water. We took some pics at the Spring and looked around for a while. I did not even unsheath a rod. Of course it was the big 10 yr anniversary weekend so I behaved.
