BolivarBasser Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Hey everyone, this is my first winter in the ozarks, and I was wondering when Stockton usually melts. I went out there last wednesday to the ramp off of VV highway near aldrich, and everything was frozen...looked like the whole lake was ice. Again, never lived down here before, and was wanting to know how long I'd have to wait to be able to get out. Also are there any parts of the lake that aren't frozen or ramps that are clear right now?
Dutch Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 Bob B cleaned off the ramp at Old State Park a couple of days ago. Mostly you get hard water up the rivers and creeks unless it is really cold like a couple of weeks ago.
Flysmallie Posted February 2, 2010 Posted February 2, 2010 I was wondering when Stockton usually melts. Usually it doesn't freeze like this.
binman Posted February 3, 2010 Posted February 3, 2010 Try ramps around the dam area. Hawker Point,Old State,Orleans Trail just to mention a few as far as ramp conditions I am of no help but the mentioned areas will usually be clear of ice on the lake might have some the further back in to the coves but main lake should be okay. Stockton Lake Guide Service Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 The lake is pretty open now as long as you stay out of the creek arms. I have been fishing about everyday around the mile long bridge. I had to break ice to get out monday, but it was open today. it'll all change again in a few days. We are going to get some much needed snow tomorrow and friday. It's a good thing because my well was about dry. Dutch Posted February 4, 2010 Posted February 4, 2010 A couple of guys yesterday tried Crabtree and found the ramp slick a snot. They backtracked to Masters and found themselves pretty much himmed in. Spent the day biteless.
Trav Posted February 10, 2010 Posted February 10, 2010 Stockton wont be worth your trouble until we get some serious sun. The bass shut down and group in the main lake. If you must...look for timber grouped tight on sunny days. Just make sure they are near open water. "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
BolivarBasser Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 Do you think Pomme would be a better try Trav?
Flysmallie Posted February 18, 2010 Posted February 18, 2010 Do you think Pomme would be a better try Trav? Pay no attention to Trav. He is just cutting and pasting the incorrect information that he posted before. Way to go Trav, keep mis-informing guys that are trying to learn something so you look better. That's a big help. Both lake are going to be tough with the water temps where they are.
BolivarBasser Posted February 18, 2010 Author Posted February 18, 2010 Good to know, thanks for the heads up.
