Opening Day On Tha Upper White With Hotdawg

Hotdawg Guide Service

Recommended Posts

My name is Tim Hotdawg Curtis and I have been a guide on the White River and Bull Shoals Lake for 35 years now. I took out three clients on February 1 and started at the State park ramp at 6:55 a.m. We were the first boat on the White and I knew with the cold weather (It was 19 degrees!) That we would probably have it to ourselves for a little while. I rigged up my clients lines with white worms and egg patternflies on spinning riggs with heavy weights to get them to the bottem as they were running seven units of water. On the first drift from the signs at the catch and release to the state park dock the three of them caught and landed eleven fish!! I decided to move up into the catch and release area and the fun really started. The first drift from the dam down to the ramp on rivercliff side we boated 8 fish with two being browns 18 inches long and one cutthroat 17 inches long. That was the sign of even better things to come on the next drift Stephan Price of Springdale Ark. Caught his biggest Brown of 26 inches that had a 21 inch girth estimated to be 8.5 pounds. Even with the snow on the ground we were all hot after that one. We caught Browns, rainbows and cutthroats and even got a golden after lunch we caught over 150 fish by the end of the day and were all tired but well satisfied. John Gabbard and his brother Arnold were the other fishermen and will be back soon guaranteed!!

Sounds like a great trip. You said a golden trout in the White? I never knew that they were in there.

Welcome to the board Tim. We have met before, I used to kick around bull Shaols Lake Boat dock with some buddies who worked there dring the lost summers of my youth. I have seen you numerous times on the water as well. Anyway, nice report. Don't you also fish/guide on the lake as well? I would really like someone to start posting some reports on the Bull Shoals lake page as well. It would be nice to pick the brains of an expert from time to time.

Actually they are color phase of rainbows that the game and fish got from some fish they bought and look like a great big goldfish. My clients have caught 6 so far and all were released after pictures will try to post picture. Thanks Hotdawg Curtis!

Thanks for the good words. I just wish I was more computer savvy and this would be easier!!Absolutely I guide on the lake!! As most people who have fished with me know I am a all inclusive guide... meaning what ever is bitingI will try my best to cath-um. My motto is I go catching not fishing. I have been duing this so long that I can also be specie selective as well as type of fishing such as topwater, jigs, stickbaits, and yes live bait.I will start to post soon as I get this mastered better. I have always tried to help people improve at catching as well giving tips on depth, where, and what to use even if you are not going with me. Thanks again Hotdawg!

Saw you on the water... I can attest to your success.

I was on track to beat your 6:55 time but... well you'd have to read my report and find out why I didn't make it till after 10 am.

Thanks for the report and welcome to our forum. You have a fantastic fishery down there.
