Members poker fisherman Posted February 11, 2010 Members Posted February 11, 2010 Hit up Hickory for an hour on my way home from work yesterday evening. Decided I didnt feel like working too hard so I just stayed at the low water bridge and close by. Nothing spectacular but I did pull out a decent little smallie right there.
Buzz Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Nice fish. I remember back before they got heavy into stocking the creek with trout you could pull smallmouth out of there all day long. I think my biggest would have went 15". I still catch some in the park, but mostly downstream near Shoal Creek. Last year I caught a real nice largemouth out of one hole up near the ballfields. That really surprised me when he hit the midge I was using to catch trout. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
ollie Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Yea, there in there, but just not as many as there use to be. I'm with Buzz on that one. When I moved back in the 90's we could catch largies, smallies, and the goggle-eye all day long. Now your lucky if you see any of those species. ness Posted February 11, 2010 Posted February 11, 2010 Where's all the $%^&? I heard that place was a $%^&hole (Sorry -- this place has been a little tame lately) John
Members poker fisherman Posted February 12, 2010 Author Members Posted February 12, 2010 I have heard from a lot of folks that its a dump. I dunno.... just started fishing there this winter because of the proximity to the house and I drive past twice a day to and from work. I probably won't fish it once the weather makes a change. I have heard there are lots of kids swimming and such in the summer.
ollie Posted February 12, 2010 Posted February 12, 2010 Not worth it in the summer, that's just my opinion. I'd rather be smallie fishing in the summer. chub minnow Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 It's nice in the winter, not so much in the heat of summer. I've caught several kentuckies upstream of and right under the 86 bridge by Kwik Mart. Seems like the bass population is just low in the areas that they stock trout.
