drew03cmc Posted February 13, 2010 Posted February 13, 2010 The stinkhole comment was referring to the lagoon in the park more or less Andy
oneshot Posted February 14, 2010 Posted February 14, 2010 There's a bit of everything (structure-wise) along the Barclay stretch. Couple of fast rocky riffles, some fast deep runs, a long deep boulder pool with some scattered wood, a long slow pool, a stillwater oxbow sinkhole pond, couple of nice gravel bars, and an active spring branch. Only thing that beautiful stretch of water it's lacking in...is TROUT. (especially browns) I have been down there and all I could catch was Browns. But that was at the far end.I have seen people catch Browns but not realize they were because they weren't very Dark. oneshot
Members acoupstick Posted February 16, 2010 Author Members Posted February 16, 2010 Thanks for all your help. We spent 5 hours around the 64 bridge. We didn't have any luck, though. I've only started seriously trout fishing within the last year, so my skills are a bit lacking. ;0) The drive down from Belton took an hour longer than usual due to the weather. In retrospect, probably should have stayed home. It was very cold. Eyelets and reels kept freezing up. Every time I rigged a different fly I would have to wait for my hands to warm up inside my wool mittens before I could fish. It was serenely beautiful out on the river, though, with big snowflakes coming down and not another person in sight. Would love to spend a day on the big river when the weather is nicer.
oneshot Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 I went to Barclay, didn't do any good.Plus like you say everything was freezing.Suppose to warm up maybe it will be better. oneshot
Members acoupstick Posted February 17, 2010 Author Members Posted February 17, 2010 Sorry you didn't do well but it's good to hear I wasn't the only one struggling. I usually go with my brother and get out-fished since he is significantly more experienced than I. Sometimes it's hard to gauge where my skills are when he's yanking fish after fish. I just know my skillset is weaker than his! ;0)
