Daveinozark Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 i was just wondering about a certain spot. Where the 65 and 60 interchange, going north on the 65, taking the east bound 60. Looking off to the north side, there is a swampy section and a trail paved down there. Anyone know how to get to that trail? I can't figure it out. Anyone try that spot? It may be too loud for fish but it looks like a good spot for maybe catfish
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 If its where I think you're referring to take the Battlefield exit, turn right and then the outer road to the right. There's a swampy area and paved trail on the west side that is between 60 and Springfield lake, and you access it from the nature Center. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

It is the Glenstone exit off James River expressway, turn left toward Republic Rd then take the outer road and head back east. No? "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Wayne SW/MO Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 It sounds like he's talking about the area between 65 and the river, northeast of the intersection. You're right if he's talking about the southwest area, all most. You're in a zone where Glenstone and Republic rd merge, and I don't know where they end and start now. The road is the first left south of the overpass and its now Nature center way, I believe. It kind of screwy because I believe Republic and Glenstone used to split at that point, Republic right and Glenstone left to the MDC center. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.

Wayne's got it. anyone try this area? i imagine they are spooked there, but i fish early morning on weekends so it may not be bad. Just plotting my plan of attack as soon as the weather cooperates
TroutRinger Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 I think that trail might be for construction if I remember right. Aren't they working on that bridge? There is a public access called Southwood under the 65 bridge about a half a mile downstream. It has a boat ramp and bathrooms. The river from Southwood to about half mile past the bridge you were talking about is slow moving and probably has some decent catfish. A little past that it starts becoming more stream-like. I fished that stretch in September out of my kayak for bass and caught just a few spots. "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." Flysmallie Posted February 26, 2010 Posted February 26, 2010 The access to the trail that you are talking about comes from the little road that runs just east of 65 between the interchange and almost all the way to Battlefield. To get there you go west of 65 on Battlefield and take a left on S Ingram Mill. Ingram Mill will turn into S Mentor Ave, keep going south. Take a left (east) on E. Gasconade St.. That will take you back over 65. Just past the bridge you take a right (south again) on S. Brunswick Ave. You can follow that down about 2/3 of the way back to the bridge until you come to the gate. It's all on foot after that.

I've been to that put-in, but there's bouyhes in the water there under the freeway to not go further so I didn't want to chance it.

And then after bushwacking in there you'll find very limited access from the bank. Upper part of Lake Springfield/James River isn't bad fishing, but this time of year it would just be a surveying trip. You can fish it pretty good from a canoe or kayak. You could rent a canoe or kayak from the boathouse there on Lake Springfield in the summer: Lake Springfield canoe/kayak rentals
