polock Posted March 9, 2010 Author Posted March 9, 2010 If you're really concerned about storage access, and access to multiple rods, you still ought to check out the solo canoe thing. I'm biased, but the bias comes from experience in 'Yaks versus solo's. not really worried about multiple rods, just one or possibly two... I don't want a solo canoe, i want a kayak, i just like em better. more fun to me. I am going to go pick up a 10' ascend at basspro this week. will take pics if i get her out on the water.
Greg Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Did you end up getting that 10' ascend? If so do you like it? Greg "My biggest worry is that my wife (when I'm dead) will sell my fishing gear for what I said I paid for it" - Koos Brandt Greg Mitchell
tippet7 Posted May 16, 2010 Posted May 16, 2010 Did you end up getting that 10' ascend? If so do you like it? Greg Yeah...what Greg said. I saw these in a flyer and got excited about the price, but being a bass pro brand, they are usually just crap. How do you like it, did you get the extras and lets see some pictures! You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.

Members Bwinkert Posted May 16, 2010 Members Posted May 16, 2010 I fish from on Ocean Kayak Trident 13. I really love it. I haven't used and messed with the Ascend brand yet although the price wasn't bad. Drop by Missouri Kayak Anglers Theres a few pics of my Trident 13 over there.
Members Clark Posted May 17, 2010 Members Posted May 17, 2010 it was a good review i have read on this about ascent kayak and it's will put in my top 5 list right now but i'll need to take a look at it and as long as ascent make from tracker and if they arent a whitewater u dont have to worry about damage, if u are a fisherman so u can just take ascend for your situation in fishing, anythings i'm still curious if ascend would able to drill and upgrade a hole for a fish finder and how abt add a rudder to make a tracking around but i did went to gander mtn store in wiscosn and they has ocean kayak terpado and it was so coat as 2000 it has a small eletric prop under the kayak but i not need but would be nice to track the kayak as handfree and u can casting around but any experince with ascend as move ur kayak position with somethings with hand free and casting
ollie Posted May 17, 2010 Posted May 17, 2010 My neighbor bought one and this is what I can tell from it. Plenty of room for fishing and storage. The hull doesn't seem to be as thick plastic as some other brands of yaks have, actually pretty thin for rocky streams IMO. His didn't come with footpegs and that was a BIG mistake. He says he has problems sliding down into the boat. The seat does not look comfortable and he claims it is not. It does seem to handle alright however. We are going on an overnighter this next weekend and I will be looking to see if he has any other gripes about it then. Members Fish Hooked Posted May 18, 2010 Members Posted May 18, 2010 Never owned a Kayak or been in one but I went to BPS today and looked at the Ascends. If you are just using it for fishing and not any whitewater stuff will a 10 footer work well as opposed to a 12 footer? It looks like the "sit in" style is more comfy and drier than the "sit on" style. Is this true? It also looks like you can buy the "el-cheapo" model and add on the footpegs, seat, rod holders, and storage yourself and do it better than BPS does. Thank you for any opinions and advice you can give.
Members Bwinkert Posted May 18, 2010 Members Posted May 18, 2010 With most sit on top styles you can get scupper plugs and create a pretty dry ride, The OK Trident 13 has a scupper hole designed for the mounting of a humminbird fishfinder.
Members TobyG Posted May 21, 2010 Members Posted May 21, 2010 I have a 10' Acsend, I use it at least once a week. Bought it about two months ago, if you are looking for a good kayak do not hesitate to buy this one. It is thicker and tougher than the vapor, I shopped long and hard before I bought and did a lot of comparisons. As far as this thing not tracking well as others have stated, I have no idea where they are getting that from, it runs straight as a string, if it is not tracking than it is your fault. The seat is comfortable, the footpegs are easy to adjust and comfortable and the kayak is very stable.
