Quillback Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I am looking for a thermometer that I can measure water temp with at certain depths, for example find out what the temp is 5ft down. Poking around on the internet hasn't yielded anything postive, I would like something that sinks fast and quickly gets the temp. and I could attach a line to. Anyobdy have something they can reccommend?
Bman Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 Fishpond has them. The only good line is a tight line
Zack Hoyt Posted March 10, 2010 Posted March 10, 2010 I have the C&F thermometer. Attahed it to the end of my rod before and can get temps about as deep as I can reach. If I am in the boat I will attach it to the anchor. It is not exact, but will get very close. In fact first time I used it was when I ran up War Eagle.....was wanting a good reading on water temp. http://www.candfdesign.com/product/127518/6-61510/_/3-in-1_Thermo__Red Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
Gilly Posted March 11, 2010 Posted March 11, 2010 A rectal thermometer should do the trick for you. At five feet??? Yikes! www.drydock516.com
FlyFishinFool Posted March 12, 2010 Posted March 12, 2010 Quillback, BassPro has an armored stream thermometer that I have used for years, encased in metal and it works just fine. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_22921____SearchResults Cabela's also offers a metal cased stream thermometer - theirs measures in Centegrade vs BassPro's Fahrenheit. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0011337310804a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&Ntk=Products&QueryText=thermometer&sort=all&N=0&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23 * ´¯`•.¸¸.•´¯`•.¸ ><((((((º> `•.¸¸.•´¯`•.¸¸.•´¯`•.¸ ><((((º> .¸¸.•´¯`•.¸ ><((((((º> I look in my fly box and think about what should guide my choice of the best fly: the amount/angle of sun on the water, the water temp & clarity, what bugs are hatching, what the fish might be eating, and what worked last time. Then I remember what an old man told me... " Ninety percent of what a trout eats is brown, fuzzy, about 1/2 inch long and underwater."
