fishinwrench Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Just in case you needed a reason to drink a beer....... Flutter Fly Hook: TMC 9394 #8 Tail: silver crystal flash over white calf tail. Body: cut from aluminum beer can, folded over & epoxied. Eyes: stick on, or painted.
dave potts Posted March 14, 2010 Posted March 14, 2010 Wrench, I have enough raw materials to make a lot of these! Guess you could call that a "Beer Can Clouser" Dave
fishinwrench Posted March 15, 2010 Author Posted March 15, 2010 Wrench, I have enough raw materials to make a lot of these! Guess you could call that a "Beer Can Clouser" Dave It's deadlier than a clouser on the cast . This crazy thing is like a flying razor blade. If I can keep from severing a major artery long enough, I think the White bass will love it.
Randall Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Wow... I'm impressed. Do you use lead tape on the inside of the "belly" or will the fly just ride point up? Other than that, I think that would be a white bass killer. Cute animals taste better.

Other than that, I think that would be a white bass killer. I haven't even fished one yet, just made several variations and played with them in the tub. The ones I did with a little lead between the fold (emphasis on little) seems to be the best ones. Without a little weight they are almost too light, I think, but I'll give them all a try and let the fish decide. They flash and flutter like crazy on a series of short pulls and pauses, and amazingly don't twist the tippet like I thought they might (not in the sink or bathtub, that is). Back in the days of carefree existance, before it became a major unmentionable act to do such a thing, I remember tossing beer and soda tabs in the lake and watching the fish nip at them as they fluttered down. Does anyone know which cans are gold on the inside ? I know I've seen some but can't think of which brand it would be (MGD or Hamms maybe ? )
trout fanatic Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 I don't often drink (any more lol) but this tempts me to bring home a 6 pack. Let's see, in the interest of achieving perfection, I will no doubt require several 6 packs to reach my objective. Wrench, what are you doing to me? Seriously, I like it. Bet the white bass do to.
Randall Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 I don't think Hamms are gold inside. Busch heavy might be but I don't know. Cute animals taste better.
Kyle Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 Busch heavy is the copper top not the copper inside. Come on Randy, I know you have looked at the bottom of a Busch or two. You could use the outside of a Hamm's can until you banged it off two many rocks and the paint chips off.
fozzie. Posted March 16, 2010 Posted March 16, 2010 If the body of the fly is covered in epoxy, do you need to use the inside of the can? You could just use the outside of a Stag can if you wanted a gold colored one.. Tom.
