snagged in outlet 3 Posted March 15, 2010 Posted March 15, 2010 Well we took a side trip from Norfork dam to the spring Friday. We camped at Norfork Dam and since they they were running water in the afternoon we headed over to The Spring. What a great town Mammoth Springs is!! Reminded me of Basalt Co where the Frying Pan runs right through town. We checked out the hatchery access but we didn't like the looks of it compared to Lassiters. What a fabulous run it is at Lassiters. Although I got Spring River baptised in the shoal just below the island!! Mark that down as another river I've gone down in. We started by going to the fly shop and they said the river was up slightly and chalky. We headed upstream from the lot by the island throwing buggers on long lines and caught fish all day. All the fish we caught were in the 12 to 14 inch range and fought hard. We fished our way downstream to the grassy area in front of the houses. We had the run of the place and it was great. There was small PMD hatch but there was never any indications that the fish were keying in on them. If you've never gone to The spring, you should check it out if they are generating on The White and Norfork. It's a much bigger river than I expected and it has a wide variety of shoals, pools and runs. I'll be back to check out other areas. It took us around an hour to get there from the Norfork Dam. Watch your speed because we saw 4 State Patrol cars and 3 locals on the way back. Thanks to everybody that offered advice and especially The Spring River Fly Shop. Snagged
