ozark trout fisher Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Yeah, I wasn't surprised. I went and scoped it out a few weeks ago. Nothing very trouty. I did, however, see an armadillo (which looked even funnier when it cut through the creek) and a mink. I had never seen a mink out and about before. That's one thing I've noticed about DeLorme atlas. NEVER TRUST WHAT THEY SAY ABOUT FISH SPECIES! According to my Missouri DeLorme atlas, the Jacks Fork has a good population of striped bass and one stretch of the Mississippi has a trout population too. Also, Truman Lake doesn't have any catfish. Hmm......
Aaron J Scott Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Ha. Point taken. You know, smallies kinda have stripes ... Save Scratch, Raise Cash. Fish Itch!
mhall02 Posted March 19, 2010 Posted March 19, 2010 Yep, there are a few hidden gems down there. Grew up near Monett and I had a few sweet spots that yielded some nice stream born fish (is that the politically correct term here on the forum ), never kept any of course, even as a teen. Heck, I lived in Crane my first year of life, I guess stream born trout were in my blood from the beginning!
