Members Ranger 520 Posted March 17, 2010 Members Posted March 17, 2010 KVD's new tour cranking rods are as good for that application as any on the market.
dblades Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I have read and watched professional bass fishermen state that a good cranking rod should be fiberglass. I went to Bass Pro and Cabelas and did not have any luck in finding fiberglass rods. I have done some research on the internet and 'parabolic' is the term thrown around. How do you know how 'parabolic' a rod is. I for the most part have Shimano Cumara's, I also have a Shimano Crucial, Shimano Teramar. Any imput would be helpful. Thanks, David I'm no pro but I'll never go back to a fiberglass rod for crankbaits. I've fished three graphite crankbait rods for at least the last ten years and can really think of only a couple of missed fish. I know I've got guite a few over four in that were just skin hooked. The action of the rod is much more important than the material.
Bill P Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 RPS--I've tried the straight Fiberglass style rods like the Silaflex...I just could not make it work. I need SOME feel and I could not even feel a wart or trap vibrate...just was not right for me. In regards to the Falcon, I used to use a 7' Med Low Rider...Had great feel...might be a little fast if your looking for the parabolic action/bend. The Skeet rods are made up of 2 different technologies. The 7' M cranking rods is labeled as "Tri-Gressive S-Glass." I used to use the 7' med Lowrider. I get more distance with the 7-6
steveearle Posted March 17, 2010 Posted March 17, 2010 I don't know if it is the actual weight or just the balance of the KVD rod but it feels heavy to me relative to the other choices...but I have not fished with it either...
Bill Babler Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Try a Falcon Cara Crankin Rod. It is 1/2 the weight of the KVD rod and is very soft thru the mid-section. $199.99. If you are on the Rock, give me a call, and I'll let you try one with a Curado on it. It is what I use with a wart. You would be more than welcome to try it for a weekend. I have 1/2 a dozen of em. http://whiteriveroutfitters.com http://whiteriverlodgebb.com
fozzype Posted March 18, 2010 Posted March 18, 2010 Babler is probably right about the rod. However, I have recently picked up some of the new All-Star Cranking Sticks. They are the lightest cranking stick I have ever used, they are balanced, and have excellent "fiberglass" like action for only about $ 80. Honestly, if you compare them directly to G-Loomis's cranking stick, I can see absolutely no difference in weight or action. B. Foz
