Members Pflugradt Posted March 26, 2010 Members Posted March 26, 2010 So I sat down last night and tied up a dozen and a half 22 and 20 cream midges.... now I'm not one to tie dries very often nor am I one to tie under an 18 (gets on my nerves) nut I had an order and I like money so... Here's what they look like next to a dime the 20's are on the left and the 22's are on the right. Hope you like.... Steve Check out my warm water flytying and flyfishing how to.
flyfishmaster Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 That is a nice tie job on those bad boys. I see the size 20s have the "big eye" hooks. How do you like them? I try to use them as much as possible. Later, FFM Woo Hoo Fish On!!
Members Pflugradt Posted March 27, 2010 Author Members Posted March 27, 2010 The ring eye is nice to have on those days when I shake like a leaf. I need to get some in the 22's as well. Thanks for the compliment. Steve Check out my warm water flytying and flyfishing how to.
Members Switchfly Posted May 4, 2011 Members Posted May 4, 2011 Hey Pflu, any chance on getting the recipe on those? I'm looking for a dry midge pattern, and i really like the way those look.
brittsnbirds Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I suspect 8/0 olive or lt. olive thread for the body. A 20 or smaller dry fly hook. Creme or dun hackle to size for collar and same for tail. That's how I tie them. Also try the same pattern with a parachute rather than the collar. It drops the fly down a little and appears to be an emerger.
flytyer57 Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I wouldn't be able to see them when tying (using mageyes) let alone seeing them after a 30' cast. Nice job though. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
snagged in outlet 3 Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I wouldn't be able to see them when tying (using mageyes) let alone seeing them after a 30' cast. Nice job though. Wow 30 feet. I guess you've been working on your casting stroke since last I saw you... Pete
Outside Bend Posted May 4, 2011 Posted May 4, 2011 I curse you for still having high-quality hackle. My dun supply's about spent, and I'll have to wait until the hackle-hair extension fad is buried for more. Nice ties, though. Montauk fish go nuts for sz. 22 cream midges. <{{{><
