jay bird Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Sorry if this is in the wrong spot I just know that a lot of people on here fish small little tournaments. I am getting a little one together for the place I work and need to get a scale to weigh in the fish. Thankfully every one is out there just to have fun, but there will be some friendly competition going on. I started to look on-line and these things are a little spendy. Does anyone have any suggestions on a good resonable scale they have used in the pass for weigh-in. Thanks in advance Jason
techo Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Tom Spence has had some small work tourneys in the past. I think we just used a Rapala brand digital scale. They run about 25 bucks and go up to 50 pounds. I am not sure on accuracy, but worked on tourneys with 12 boats or so. Tim Carpenter

My Rapala digital is pretty accurate when I calcualte weights on the boat, compared to what I weigh in at a toruney. Just be sure to bring spare batteries if others on counting on it. I had my batteries crap out on us one time when we were really into some nice fish. Could only guesstimate then.

Yes I agree,as long as U use the same scales didg.with new batt. That should work just fine. Snakem
jay bird Posted March 29, 2010 Author Posted March 29, 2010 So did they rig it up to weigh the fish all together or did they just do it one at a time? Thanks for the advice.

Fish could be measured, recorded and released at boat,or measured and released at 'weigh-in'. No scale would be necessary. It might not be as precise as weighing, given thick vs. thin fish, but it would be fair. If it's a 'small' event,it wouldn't take long. You just need a calculator,weight/length chart, and a 'golden rule'.
techo Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 So did they rig it up to weigh the fish all together or did they just do it one at a time? Thanks for the advice. We all have our own weigh in bags. Just make sure it is empty of water and put the fish in a weigh in bag. Use the same bag over and over again. Bass pro has cheapies for 5-10 bucks. They have handles to put on the hook. Tim Carpenter
steveearle Posted March 29, 2010 Posted March 29, 2010 Just hang the bag handles on the scale hook. The most important part is getting the scaled zero'ed out every time you weigh fish and then hangin the handles gently onto the scale...(and make sure everyone uses the same kind of bag).
