hank franklin Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I lost a canoe paddle on the Eleven Point over the weekend, somewhere above Boom Hole and below Becky Hollow. It's an old wooden paddle with some good wear on the blade but it has tremendous sentimental value. My daughter had tears in her eye when I told her I lost it. If anyone finds it I'd be glad to pay a finder's fee to get it back. It's a nice old paddle but it's worth a heckuva lot more to me than anyone else. Thanks.
Coldspring Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I know how you feel. I left a beloved hiking stick leaning against a tree at a campsite. I just knew it would be there when I went back, but it was gone. Do you have any other ideas about what happened to it? Or did you just realize it was missing from your boat? If I'm around there, I'll keep my eyes open. I think it would be cool to find it! Last night, I heard that the Ozark Mountain Daredevils will be doing a show in West Plains in April.
hank franklin Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 It's a long story, but it basically just slipped away. It actually happened once before but my daughter and I, after a night crying about it around the campfire, went back the next day and found it hidden in a clump of brush. That just adds to its lore.
Members smallmouth43 Posted March 30, 2010 Members Posted March 30, 2010 A day late and a dollar short. Your paddle was in the brush two shoals below Boom on Sunday late afternoon. Did not pick up but buddy pointed it out. Will likely be back up that way over the weekend and will pick up. Might mention to Brian Sloss as he is likely putting in a few canoers in that stretch this time of year. If I find I will post. No finders fee allowed.

We were still on the river Sunday morning and heading back home when you saw it. I told Brian about it, he did our shuttle. Maybe I'll get that thing back in my hands yet.
snap Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 We will have a group on the river Wednesday thru Friday. Not sure where the boom hole and Becky Holow is though??? More specifically, the brush pile..... and we will do our best to get it for you!!!!
Gavin Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 Think the boom hole is a couple miles above Greer....Hope you get your paddle back
Mark Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 I'll help Snap look for it and we'll leave it with Brian if we find it. Ozark Mountain Daredevils at West Plains in April??? Cool - I saw them last Nov. at Wildwood Springs in Steeleville - they put on an awesome show. I bought Supe Granda's book "It Shined - The Saga of the Ozark Mountain Daredevils" and he autographed it for me.
hank franklin Posted March 30, 2010 Author Posted March 30, 2010 Thanks everybody. Boom Hole is shown as point "N" on the attached map. As Gavin said, about two to 2.5 miles above Greer. Definitely some kind of reward for the finder!
Coldspring Posted March 30, 2010 Posted March 30, 2010 A day late and a dollar short. Your paddle was in the brush two shoals below Boom on Sunday late afternoon. Happen to remember what side of the river it was on, left-north or right-south? Boom Hole is a hole of water at the base of a darkened, big bluff that's on the right-south side of the river. It's the next bluff downstream from the high one on the north side of the river where Long Hollow primitive access is. There is a primitive access at Boom Hole, that is accessed from the McCormack Lake road, but it is really getting "primitive" these days. Interesting trivia: The name Boom comes from the fact that a timber chute was constructed on the bluff during the logging boom. When the logs struck the water they boomed. I've looked around the top of the bluff for any sign of the chute, but came up empty, nice view though.
