Can't pass this up but maybe I should. I took an old friend out from TX and we fished the Meramec Friday. Only caught 16 bass, but the biggest 5 would have weighed a good 17 lb. Just one of the bass was a smallie if that makes you feel better. Here's the pic of Al L. with his bass. There was a pattern to the larger bass, but the smaller ones were spread out shallow sand somewhat out of the current. Didn't mean to ruin a bad catching day for most of you. With the rain we got last night, I calling off a trip on Monday. post-9967-12703326375212_thumb.jpg You can see by the background that this is not your typical smallie water. Nick

Geez Nick. How am I supposed to decide whether or not to switch rivers for my float next weekend when you keep posting pics like that? Do you mind saying if you were above or below the Huzzah?

Below. I really believe that if a tourney had been held Friday some good bags would have been weighed. It wasn't a numbers game; it rarely is in high/murky water. But big bass can be fooled easier; my buddy Al L. caught 3 bass and they averaged around 4 pounds each. I brought up the rear with runts that day.

Went to Meramec yesterday (4-10) and had similar results, fished all the right places. Water was high and won't be perfect for a few more days but thought I would give it a shot anyway. Fished with a spinnerbait most of the day and only caught 4 fish. The water was pea soup with about 24" visibility. The fish we caught really smacked the

spinnerbait when they hit it but only a few wanted to play. Lot of jet boat traffic in late afternoon.

floated 9 miles on Sunday 4/11 near Onondaga and between 3 of us in 2 canoes we totaled 4 smallies and 1 largemouth. A disappointing 1st trip of the year. Weather was beautiful, though.

Went fishing with a smallmouth alliance member yesterday on the Meramec. The bite was pretty tough, the fish seemed to be scattered. We caught maybe 12-15 fish but was able to catch a nice smallie (19.5") near the end of the day on a wiggle wart. The water was slowly dropping since the rains a couple weeks ago. We had several fish pop the jigs we were using but when you tried to set the hook they weren't there. Seemed like a spawning behavior to me. Water temps around 60, murky water in some areas and 3-4 ft visibility in others.
