Members ubear111 Posted April 19, 2010 Members Posted April 19, 2010 i seek input on a good guide for Taneycomo --- in late Dec - i set up to fish with Bill Babler. yesterday, i emailed to find out where and when to find that he double booked and now i told that i can fish another date with Bill or to use another guide. what i am seeking ... some one to teach my wife and i about trout fishing at Taneycomo .... we had fished Taneycomo in the late 70's and early 80. we had hired a guide - Milo Holvick. He taught us to use drift rigs and to troll with cowbells. we quit fishing Taneycome for many years. in the past three years, we started to fish Taneycomo again ... we catch a few trout --- got a few nicer fish - but we realized if we do not catch more fish this year - we will crappie fish at a texas lake ... so we know how to drift --- we know a little about trolling. we would like to learn about jig fishing - tight line and under a bobber, throwing lures? fly rod with and without an indicator ... plus how to safety navigate the trpphy area ... what to look for in spots to fish. we will continue to fish after the guided trip until Sat AM ... we want this known upfront so as to not step on toes. we are looking for a guide on Monday April 26. any recommendations?
Members bigdub Posted April 19, 2010 Members Posted April 19, 2010 If he's available, Brett with Chartered Waters. He's good and can cover almost the whole lot of things you are wanting to learn. He is a awesome teacher and you and your wife would have a great experience. Good Luck! A fool with a plan is always better than a genius with NO PLAN!!!!
XP 590 Posted April 21, 2010 Posted April 21, 2010 Brett Rader @ Chartered Waters would be my first choice.
denjac Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Give Phil Lilly a call. He is the jig king! Dennis Boothe Joplin Mo. For a nation to tax itself into prosperity is like a man standing in a bucket and trying to lift himself up by the handle." ~ Winston Churchill ~
Members ubear111 Posted April 22, 2010 Author Members Posted April 22, 2010 i appreciate the feedback. Lilley's offered any of their guides. i started to contact a few people that were suggested here and that i saw on the internet. Phil volunterred to guide Marilyn and i on that day ... you can't beat that. we are going down Sunday.... we are looking forward to fishing with Phil. i hope that he can put up with a fellow that is almost deaf ..... and that has some balance issues --- never drink - but wobbles --- just the remnants of good old brain tumor.... we have looked on this site to read a little about Phil. i would imagine a good christian man based on the people that have used teh picnic area when we have been there in the past. looking forward to a good week --- we always enjoy staying at Phil's... now we get to meet him. again thanks carter
Members Tangled Bill Posted April 22, 2010 Members Posted April 22, 2010 Hmmm..... what if you couldn't imagine a good christian man? Just wonderin'... Have fun, Carter.
tippet7 Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Charted Waters will teach you how to catch fish, even if they have to bull their way in or plow other anglers out of the way to do so. You want knowledge AND ethics...see Phil Lilley. **This opinion is not endorsed by this website. This a personal opinion based on experience** Have a wonderful day You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.
Root Admin Phil Lilley Posted April 22, 2010 Root Admin Posted April 22, 2010 Now we all can find fault with everyone... I'm sure I've thrown a few big wakes at people on the lake. This isn't a pissing contest and I don't want it to become a mudfest. Mr. Carter found a guide so we don't need anymore suggestions.
Members ubear111 Posted May 2, 2010 Author Members Posted May 2, 2010 lets see --- guide 1 double booked. guide 2 got sick guide 3 showed up ..... no one told him of the desire to use spinning and fly gear.... i was less than happy. guide 3 was Vince Elfrink. i told what had lead to this point .... i explained what my wife and i wanted -- to learn how to fish many different ways. He offered to get his fly rods but said that the water was running fast .... so off we went. He showed us: jigs jig under a float how to drift a fly - rigged and discussed - never did jerk baits flies under a float we knew about drifting powerbaits and trolling he took us from the dam to Roark creek. He busted his rear to show us what to do and got us on the fish! My wife got tired of catching fish. I threw jerk baits and Vince fished jigs for a few hours. He talked about every area- what to try --- We got our money's worth .... i met a heck of a good person. i have balance problems - Vince worked with me to give me a heck of a day - thanks!
Members ubear111 Posted May 2, 2010 Author Members Posted May 2, 2010 and i almost forgot to say that he showed us where to catch crappie and white bass. carter
