I've floated, camped and fished the Niangua since the 1960s. The furtherest downriver we ever caught trout was at Blue Springs (there used to be a small resort with a campground and cabins there in those days.) Even during the dog days of summer, we could usually catch a rainbow or two in the fast water right below where the spring branch entered the river. A wooly worm/spinner combo was our favorite back then. We used to camp on a farmer's bottomland on a beautiful shady gravel bar about a half mile below Blue Spring and motor up to it. The spring hole itself had trout as well, but they were hard to catch. I heard rumors that there were a few big browns in the river below Blue Spring, but we never saw 'em.
