Chief Grey Bear Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Yeah I long rod. But only from late Nov through late Feb. Not sure on an exact date yet. I will have to check on my divorce status. Right now it is running high due to having trips on the calander through June. It is not likely to drop until to an acceptable level until level until fall. But I have been know to sneek a extra trip in here and there. I don't care where we put in. You are supposed to be the teacher. I am expecting to get a whooping whether down there or up here. I only do about 5 miles a day. But don't plan on building any campfires and fishing until its fished out. You start staying until the hole is fished out and you will paddle right through lots of good water on the bottom end cause it is getting to late. I fish everthing west of the James River in SWMO. Ain't really any need to go anywhere else. But I do for the scenery. As for what I target, just black bass. I don't break it down to a certain species of black bass. If you do that, you miss a lot of great fishing. And Goggle eye. I am not sure how Crooked creek flows in summer or fall. It gets pretty low doesn't it? Don't we need to float it in the spring? rps Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Chief and flytier: Sounds to me like you two need an umpire. I volunteer to follow behind you in my kayak and resolve all disputes impartially. My fee will be small.

Kelly's Slab to Yellville is only a few miles. We can do that. No campfires, but should get plenty of time to properly fish. I guess below Yellville, Crooked Creek dries up in the summer. Just keep an eye on the gauges. Right now, it's just over the slab and flowing at about 230 cfs. A bit low for floating maybe, but perfect for wading imo. Like I said, I never floated Crooked Creek. I've only fished at Yellville and the lower access south of Flippin. Let me do some homework on the flows and I'll get back to ya. How far into MO is the James? I don't have a map of MO yet. I need to make a trip up to BassPro one of these days anyway. There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.

FT57 - The James starts near Seymour, east of Springfield. From the beginning it makes an arch toward Springfield where from there it continues south into T-Rock. If your divorce schedule allows, maybe we can fish then. As for using the "long rod" only from November to February, it sounds like you do some steelhead fishing? rps Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 flyytier: have my own license, Chief's canoe once was mine (an inside joke), and for fee I was thinking a diet coke. what. you can't even spare a diet coke for an impartial judge?

Ok. Impartial judge, 2 diet Coke's then. You ever float Crooked Creek before? If so, what can we expect? There's a fine line between fishing and sitting there looking stupid.
rps Posted May 9, 2010 Posted May 9, 2010 Never been on it. Always wanted to fish it. That's why I offered to join you to "help you out." I have fished the extreme lower end where it flows into the White. Because of the underground flow of the creek, you can't go very far up river from the White.

I am hosting a float on Shoal Creek. Check this out: http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=22653 It would be great if both you and rps and his lovely bride could make it. Yaks are more than welcome. flyytier: have my own license, Chief's canoe once was mine (an inside joke), and for fee I was thinking a diet coke. what. you can't even spare a diet coke for an impartial judge? I had a feeling you already had one. I'll bring a whole 6-pack. Of diet Coke. Now who is bringing the diet Slim Jims?
