Stump bumper Posted May 11, 2010 Author Posted May 11, 2010 Just checked and they are slowing generation and are at 1121.83 so I guess we will see real soon how far this is going to go. I hope they get that sand out of the parking lot at Rocky Branch when this time before a rain brings it right back up, I sure would like to have the parking back.
Trav Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I think most bass in Ozark lakes spawn in fifteen to twenty feet of water anyway..... "May success follow your every cast." - Trav P. Johnson
Quillback Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 The bios that do the annual fish survey on Beaver credit the significantly higher numbers of fish they have seen the last couple of years to the high water in the spring. Basically there's more cover for the young fish, thus higher survival. One thing I've noticed is the high water killed a lot of the trees that were flooded and some of them are falling into the lake adding more cover, so if the lake drops we should still have a net gain in cover which is good IMO. I think that because of the increased fish populations that Beaver is probably fishing as good as it ever will right now. This is probably as good as it well ever be. Crappie fishing this spring, from what I can tell has been pretty good compared to what it usually is. Seem to be more walleye around also.
Quillback Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 Here's a link to the AGFC latest regional newsletter, in it they attribute faster growth rates for LM bass to the high water. Of course the Corps is going to change the water levels when they want to control possible flooding, so what we think doesn't really matter, but it's fun to talk about it http://www.agfc.com/!userfiles/pdfs/fisheries/Newsletters/D1.pdf
jeb Posted May 12, 2010 Posted May 12, 2010 I think most bass in Ozark lakes spawn in fifteen to twenty feet of water anyway..... I've heard the spots do. But I think the LM's, by and large, like the 5' or less water. The lake seems to be down about a foot so far. Interesting fishing some of the spawning coves yesterday in the lower water. The water is also much clearer than I'd seen for a while. So dozens and dozens of beds are right in your face now. There are a bunch of HUGE carp back in there now, but I saw (and caught) a fair number of bass swimming around in 1-2' of water yesterday, too. One really nice LM yesterday, too. Stump bumper Posted May 14, 2010 Author Posted May 14, 2010 Well hit 1121.4 and they quit letting it out, I am wondering if they will just let it rise with all this rain.
Quillback Posted May 14, 2010 Posted May 14, 2010 I am wondering the same thing, it's been raining like crazy all morning here in Bella Vista.
Stump bumper Posted May 15, 2010 Author Posted May 15, 2010 Almost another foot and little generation, with another day of rain I betting it will level off back to about 1124 feet for a while.
Zack Hoyt Posted May 15, 2010 Posted May 15, 2010 Table Rock has risen quite a bit, so I would assume Beaver generation will hold off a bit while the lower lakes unload. Zack Hoyt OAF Contributor Flies, Lies, and Other Diversions
Stump bumper Posted May 22, 2010 Author Posted May 22, 2010 Well it is up almost a foot since I started this thread, if they didn't drop the water the last storms would have put it over the flood gates. Anybody heard when they might try again ? I remember when there was a winter draw down but guess that was not profitable. Guess I should just get some 20lb test and learn how to fish flooded brush.
