Recommendations On A Two Day Float

Hello everyone,

I'm looking to get some recommendations on an overnighter on the Buffalo. I'm going with a group of friends later this month and would really like to get some information on good stretches. I would like to float the lower sections of the river being that I've never experienced that part of the buffalo and I hear the landscape around there is beautiful. If anyone has any thoughts please let me know.

Thanks,

lots of choices down that way,..hwy 14(dillards ferry) to rush, is one we do all winter long. this is the last section before the wilderness section that goes to the whiter river. it's slow and easy floating

Thanks, I'll probably need a float that isn't too difficult being that some of these people have never floated. My companions inexperience will most likely mean that I won't be able to get very much fishing in unless it's an easy float.

Thanks again, Bobber

get your river map and check it out. we camp about 5 miles down stream from buffalo point on river left. this leaves you about 2 and a 1/2 miles to the take out makes for a good lazy morning... time to let the tents, and gear, dry out before packing it all away. also helps if rain gets you to be close to the car... just don't go pass the take-out at rush.(river left) other wise you have two more nights on the river. and a really long walk back to the car!

You can also look at floating from Spring Creek, access off 99 south of Dillards Ferry( hwy 14 bridge , to Rush Landing. From Spring creek to Buffalo Point it is 6.1 miles and from Buffalo Point to Rush it is 7.5 miles. There is a nice campground at Buffalo Point, nice showers and restrooms, and there is a primitive campground at Rush Landing. We did this float last week and the water was nice and slow and by camping at Buffalo Point you would not have to worry about rising water levels as much as camping on the river. We used light fishing gear and fly rods and caught smallmouth and ozark bass. We did not catch anything really big, mostly 10-12 inch but everyone caught at least one that was 14-16 inches. I also caught a 14 inch rainbow on my flyrod below Buffalo point. We had no rain last week and the water was great but I don't know what this weather is doing to the river, you might want to check the gauge at Harriet.

Thanks for the suggestion budman. I think we're going the weekend after this one and hopefully the weather cooperates. How's the landscape through there? As beautiful as the rest of the river? I'm going with a bunch of people who aren't really interested in fishing so i need something for them to look at so I can have a little time fishing.

  • 2 weeks later...

for a two day float I suggest rush to the white river. Its the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen.

That's the 24 mile stretch through the wilderness area right? I'll talk it over with my group and we may go there. Your the second person that has told me about the beauty of this stretch. The trip was delayed due to all the water and now it seems that we are going after all my friends get back from some hippie jam fest down in Arkansas. Thanks to everyone for the information.
