straw hat Posted May 18, 2010 Posted May 18, 2010 Decided to go to CC today for cats. Arrived early this morning only to find the rock rip rap pertty well packed with people. Went on to where a small creek enters the lake near Cedar Ridge. The water coming in was clear as was the back of that cove. Fished there one hour with no hits. went back to CC and the area had cleared out so I picked out a spot and set up shop. After about 30 minutes a guy came down and sat beside me, literally, I could have touched him with my rod tip! I gathered up my gear and crossed to the other side of the rip rap. Both areas were fairly murky, about 6" of visibility and only a slight current. If you are going to boat in that area keep an eye out for floating debri. There was some pretty good size trees floating around. After about 30 minutes a couple kids came down with their fathers and the kids started to throwing rocks in the water. Time to move again. I picked up some minnows and headed to a channel drop about a mile away. Over the next 3 hours I caught around 40 or 50 crappie with only two keepers. They were 7 to 12 foot deep in 20 to 25 foot of water. Definately suspended.
luckycraft Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Ah, you got to love the rock throwers when you are out fishing. I understand that lakes are made for a variety of recreational activity, but what happened to common curtousy. Just a quick note on a similar subject. I was out fishing in a cove that was shared by some families, kids were throwing rocks and i let it go, but when one shouted 5$ to the first to hit his boat, I got a little steamed. Packed up shop and headed out. What is wrong with people these days?
Predator1 Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 Straw Hat...feeling better? Over the FLU? Sounds like fun with the crappie. So you were not in a boat? Just fishing off the bank? I seen some guy fishing off one of the bridges at Maze Creek. Looked like he was catfishing when I was checking out that spot you told me about to drop my boat in. I see what you mean if it is real muddy. THANKS..;.I will probably use that entrance instead of taking the boat 5 miles from cedar ridge. I will still let you know how I do on catfish this weekend. LUCKCRAFT....guess we should always have a couple of ROCKS on board for the scare tacktict ...bet they wouldn't think we would have rocks too.
Members Rick Baker Posted May 19, 2010 Members Posted May 19, 2010 theres serious mud at maze creek. when i was younger me and a buddy took a bronco back down the trails away from the highway. got it stuck in mud that had no bottom. destroyed the truck anyway when we hit a creek bed and battery acid got all over the block. he left the truck back there. a couple of years ago i was able to get back in there again when it was dry. somebody with a monster truck got down to the bronco and cut the subframe out of it and axles. and then lit it on fire. pretty sure its still there. man we were some dumb 16 year olds. i can tell you one thing. if you have monster truck, and want to catch as many white bass as you want. they get stuck in pools back there. hundreds of them. then the pools dry up and all the fish die. but like i said, theres nothing less than i truck with 44inch tires getting back there
straw hat Posted May 19, 2010 Author Posted May 19, 2010 Yep, Predator1, The flu has flown! Most of the time I bank fish but I do have a boat. With my heart condition I move fairly slow so I usually wait til the number of boats drop off for the summer before I take mine out. First of all I don't want to deal with all the craziness at a busy launch and I also don't want to slow people up who are waiting to launch. I was suprised how many people had put in at CC on Tuesday, even with the dingy water.

That's about the time you want to take a pump shotgun out, shuck a shell into it, and loudly state, "All right, this will be fun...and the first one who hits my boat gets shot right where he stands. Good luck kids!" (Not that you would but it'd be fun to watch them scatter!) Predator1 Posted May 20, 2010 Posted May 20, 2010 StrawHat...I hear you with the Heart Problems. My Uncle Don used to fish by himself and one day he had a heart attack at the boat launch. I always worry about that myself. I am 43 myself and I do carry my cell phone with me. I was thinking about purchasing one of those things called the "SPOT"...Bass Pro sells them. If you are in an emergency state..just press the button and it will notify the local municipals to your rescue. Sometimes I fish alone too. When I make it up to Stockton I will send you a PM. IF you would like to hook up, I have a 15' FlatBottom JON BOAT. You could sit up front and run the trolling motor.. I dont take it out where the BIGGER BOATS RUN. I stick to less traffic areas as much as possible. I seem to find just as many fish. I usually put in at ALDRICH BRIDGE. When the fish are up the river, I will put in at TAYLORS BRIDGE. The Maze Creek area and Turkey Creek area will all be new to me the first weekend of June. I still have not fished anyother spots on STOCKTON. loo10....My Dad and Grandfather used to load shotgun shells with rock salt back in the day for trespassers. Stings a little

So I guess I am unable to receive anymore PM's till I delete the ones I have... There are some I need to print. THEY ARE HELPFUL HINTS FROM ALL OF YOU OAF Friends. I will do that at the Office tomorrow. Thanks.
