ok, so I picked up a nice used tracker tourney pro 17 with a 50hp prop on it, It is set up with 4 rod holders across the back 2 on the sides and a few up front. I think this was used as a crappie boat, but I think it would be good for cats as well. My buddy from alambama has been bugging me constantly about getting after cats. I have never catfished other than in farm ponds. any pointers on where to go and what to use?

A trot line would be your best bet. Its just about time too to get some nice cats. I always have pretty good luck this time of year on a trotline strung from tree to tree on a bank ranging from 10-20 feet of water baited with perch i had caught during the day which is fun in itself. If you are going to do that just make sure to have it properly marked with jugs and your info and too take it down after you are done. Fisherman and others can get pretty PO'ed about unmarked and old knarley lines. I know i hate snagging a 3 year old mossy rust hooked trotline while bass fishing.

Yeah really looking for a place that people have had lucking fishing on a rod and reel for them. I live about 45 min from the lake and don't wanna have to make 2 trips to check the lines in the morning before sun up.

How far are you from Grand Lake in Oklahoma? It's a great catfishing lake, I usually do best in September/October fishing main lake flats slow drifting fresh shad on the bottom. August can be good also. Lots of blue cats which are really good eating. I hear you can catch channels in late May when they are spawning by drifting shrimp under a bobber in rip-rap areas. Never tried it myself, but might give it a shot this year.
