Bluegill Question

I am wanting to take my wife out this weekend to catch some gills around baxter. Based on what I have read, pea gravel main-lake points 10-15 ft.?

Any locations anyone wants to give up? lol (yeah right)

There are so many blue gill and gravel banks on Table Rock, I wouldn't think you'd need specific locations.

That's half the fun and satisfaction anyhow... the hunt- and finding them.

Get out early - you might see some fish surfacing and then it could get real interesting.

Crickets, crickets, and more crickets will get the gills. Not just gravel points, but bluffs, too. Cast to the bluff wall and let it sink. They usually are from 15-20' deep. I use a split shot rig to get the cricket down deep.

I hit gravel banks, rock banks, and sharp drop offs and threw crickets, minnows, and crawlers and didn't catch anything but bait. I talked to a neighbor yesterday and he said we need to go and he is going to put me on fish. This is my last hope for this lake, or i'll just drive to our river house on the current and stick with what I know.

Usually do fairly well with my kids on the deeper docks around 13...using sort of a "junior" version of a drop shot. Obviously there are lots of small fish around the docks, but we usually manage a few solid ones by fishing under them, and in nasty places. Bonus for them is the odd small K or black that tends to show up, and not getting too pounded by wakes running up and down the lake. Have to keep it fun.

Well here I go but please don't catch all my fish......LOL! Without giving up my exact location I will give you all the details and I am sure you will find them. I have been on "good" gills 8"+ big ole' bulls for two weeks now and have loaded the freezer so I will share. I have been putting in at Gages Marina and you don't have to go far. Here is what I have been looking for and where I find my fish:

First thing I look for is major main lake structural change, i.e. meaning a main lake point or major channel bends, bluff, etc. The second thing I look for, and in my mind the most important, is a major piece of structure next to the forementioned. This would be, and in order of my favorite, a dock(s), bridge pilings, island, bluff end, etc. Third, I look to see if the above findings have a cut near them that holds shallow water 2' to 10' with deep water near by. If there's pea gravel on your shallow finding you got money!

Well there you have it, that is my system on where I go to find the gills. Put in at Gages and use the above formula and you'll catch gills. Let me know how you do.

I finally found them around Indian Point today. They aren't where they've been the last two years. I found them in cuts on gravel flats, about 10-13 feet of water. They were mixed in with the longear, but if you're willing to sacrifice a few crickets between big 8 inch gills, you can catch them. Water temp was around 81, so it should continue for the next few weeks.
