Trout Commander Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Most logical answer is your friend isn't actually catching Crappie. What he is catching is the less well known Houdinifish. All Houdinifish must be cleaned almost immediately as they are unable to be contained in baskets, on stringers (you caught these too, Zach Beach), in hand-cuffs, straight jackets or safes. Hope this helps clear things up. I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted. The latest Trout Commander blog post: Niangua River Six Pack
rangerman Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 i'd go with otter, 8' is a little to deep for a coon to dive....A mink is a REAL good candidate for that as well
Bman Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 Coons. I've seen them do some incredible things to out smart live traps. The only good line is a tight line
loo10 Posted July 19, 2010 Posted July 19, 2010 I'd get one of those motion detector cameras from Bass Pro and set it up where if is pointing to a good spot on the dock. That way you'll know for sure unless it swims underwater quite a ways. Good luck. Keep us posted. Members fishin_addict Posted July 19, 2010 Members Posted July 19, 2010 It's Otters. We have the same thing happen out our place at the Lake.
TroutRinger Posted July 20, 2010 Posted July 20, 2010 Well, raccoons try to get on our back porch, Momma just chase 'em off with a broom "Of all the liars among mankind, the fisherman is the most trustworthy." "There's a fine line between fishing and standing on the shore like an idiot."
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 21, 2010 Posted July 21, 2010 That deep it has to be an otter. Many years ago a fellow in our bunch, fishing a river, caught a cat weighing about 10# and put it in a basket and wired the door shut. Later that night we investigated a noise and arrived just in time to see an otter dive at the basket. The basket was empty and the door had been bent until the fish could be pulled out. Coons don't dive and turtles aren't that smart. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
