Most logical answer is your friend isn't actually catching Crappie. What he is catching is the less well known Houdinifish. All Houdinifish must be cleaned almost immediately as they are unable to be contained in baskets, on stringers (you caught these too, Zach Beach), in hand-cuffs, straight jackets or safes.

Hope this helps clear things up.

I have spent most of my money on fly fishing and beer. The rest I just wasted.

i'd go with otter, 8' is a little to deep for a coon to dive....A mink is a REAL good candidate for that as well

Coons. I've seen them do some incredible things to out smart live traps.

The only good line is a tight line

I'd get one of those motion detector cameras from Bass Pro

and set it up where if is pointing to a good spot on the dock. :ninja:

That way you'll know for sure unless it swims underwater quite a ways.

Good luck.

Old Scuba Divers with Alzhiemer's...

That deep it has to be an otter. Many years ago a fellow in our bunch, fishing a river, caught a cat weighing about 10# and put it in a basket and wired the door shut. Later that night we investigated a noise and arrived just in time to see an otter dive at the basket. The basket was empty and the door had been bent until the fish could be pulled out.

Coons don't dive and turtles aren't that smart.

Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
