Predator1 Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 That deep it has to be an otter. Many years ago a fellow in our bunch, fishing a river, caught a cat weighing about 10# and put it in a basket and wired the door shut. Later that night we investigated a noise and arrived just in time to see an otter dive at the basket. The basket was empty and the door had been bent until the fish could be pulled out. Coons don't dive and turtles aren't that smart. Was that your neighbors missing cat. Calico or what. Has any snake-head fish been seen in this area anybody?
Wayne SW/MO Posted July 28, 2010 Posted July 28, 2010 Was that your neighbors missing cat. Calico or what. I was thinking more like a catfish in a fish basket in answering a question concerning fish. Today's release is tomorrows gift to another fisherman.
Predator1 Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Good humor Wayne SW/MO......Looking forward to fishing LOZ Next Weekend. Anyone doing good on the Crappie Lately. Does anyone have any luck using the Power-bait Sparkle Nibbles on their Jigs up at Loz? Also, is the cat fishing been good below the dam this time of year? Blues, Channels and Flats?....I was just kiddn round bout the Calico.
FishinCricket Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 Would a coon have been smart enough to pull the rope up? cricket.c21.com
Mr. Ed Posted July 29, 2010 Posted July 29, 2010 I'd guess otter as well. They're d@mn strong. I was fishing on a resort dock at Tanycomo one night. Gut hooked a trout and decided to throw it on a chain stringer. went to drop it in the water and an otter that was sitting below the deck top grabbed it. I was in a tug of war with the thing for about ten seconds... and lost. My 80# lab doesn't pull as hard as this thing did. Scared the heck out of me.
Gatorjet Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Hungry neighbors!!! Real men go propless!
laker67 Posted September 19, 2010 Posted September 19, 2010 Otters. They are more populated than crappie on the big niangua arm. You have to use a heavy duty wire basket{wire cage} or clean all fish the same day. A gentleman in Laurie, Mo. makes some baskets that are otter proof. He sells them to various bait shops around the area. We have set traps to no avail, but we haven't lost a fish in several years after using the heavy duty wire cage.
