Ron Burgundy Posted June 1, 2010 Posted June 1, 2010 Question......has any of you ever tried to make your own planer boards? Unless your a real handy man I would just buy them..... Gone but not forgotten Martin Ford
rangerman Posted June 2, 2010 Posted June 2, 2010 If you can setup 2 offshore boards for $40 your doin' better than me. With flags & snappers so you can use braid they seem to cost me about $50 each. Yeah, you are right, I didn't really think about it that hard. I don't have tattle flags, but do have the snapper releases.
Predator1 Posted June 3, 2010 Author Posted June 3, 2010 Going to BP tomorrow night..BASS PRO....not British Petroleum.
Mike Worley Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 I have saved $20 on the tattle flag thing by making my own linkage (lashing wire) and just buying the spring and nylon washer from the hardware store. It doesn't look as slick as the offshore kit on close exam but works. The boards already come with the flag.
rangerman Posted June 3, 2010 Posted June 3, 2010 With as many small ones as there are lately I am thinking of getting the tattle flags. Have you run the 800 series reef runners on them. I kind of figured as hard as they pull it would pull the tattle flag down.

There is a tighter spring u can get...C-73 is the number on Ace Hardware.com...and I have them but they were so tight that small fish wouldn't pull the flag down....So I put the lighter ones back on but the 800 don't pull them back anyways.... rangerman Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 Cool beans, guess I will have to make another trip to Cabelas
Ron Burgundy Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 I guess experienced "boarders" don't need them they can just tell how the board is riding in the water but the tattle flag sure helps me.......Last trip out I was with a friend and he didn't have his tattle boards with him so we were using "standard" boards and we drug 3 small fish long distances without realizing we had fish. Mike Worley Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I find that with 800 Reef Runners the flag will stay pretty much 1/2 way down.( I use braid most of the time with the big snapper clips) When a fish is on the board often it will cause the line to slip thru the rear clip and the flag will come up. The tattle flag really works better with smaller lures with the 800's you really just got to watch for any kind of change in the way the board is running. It helps to run the same size & brand lure on both the port & starboard boards for comparison till you get used to using them.
rangerman Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I don't know I was checking the mast systems out the other day. Kind of thinking of getting one.......Maybe.
