jdmidwest Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Fishing, what does it really mean to you?? Coming off a great weekend with a good friend, enjoying one of the best times I have ever spent in the outdoors since the last time, I propose a poll and a few questions. "Life has become immeasurably better since I have been forced to stop taking it seriously." — Hunter S. Thompson
Buzz Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I voted "Something your wife does not like to do". Really it is a big part of who I am. It's much more than a hobby, it's a passion. If I needed to feed my family, I have no doubt we would get tired of fish real soon. As for recreational, It's as much of a way to get together with friends and family as anything. If fishing was easy it would be called catching.
KCRIVERRAT Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Freedom... not thinking about anything else in our stinking world but what we're doing at that moment. Better yet if you're sharing that time with friends who think the same. HUMAN RELATIONS MANAGER @ OZARK FISHING EXPEDITIONS
stlfisher Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 I voted recreation, but it is also for fun and for relaxation.
tippet7 Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Stress relief. A way for me to keep in touch with my father. He died in 2002 and every time I am on the water I can hear him saying to me "Thats the wrong fly knucklehead, you wont catch fish with that knot, control your backcast better, mend the line, what the hell kind of cast was that?" 99.9 % of the time I couldnt care less if I catch a fish or not. My dad taught me to just enjoy being in or on the water. Listen to the sounds around you, see everything, smell everything. If you catch a fish....well, thats just a bonus. You are so stupid you threw a rock at the ground and missed.

ozark trout fisher Posted June 7, 2010 Posted June 7, 2010 Fishing is pretty much everything to me, except a way to make money. It's my passion, my life, it always has been, and probably it always will be. It's also an excellent way to spend a lot of money when I can't afford to.
Members bheff Posted June 7, 2010 Members Posted June 7, 2010 Like the others, Fishing is a passion. I do not go out thinking Im going to catch a world record. Even the days where the fish won, I still have a great time! My son and I refurbed a boat. It was $500 and I promise we have more fun on it than we could on a $30k boat. Even though my son is four he help with the wrenches and paint. Always wanting be right in the mix of the action. Truth be told it probably took me twice as long to finish with his help..lol. Our first trip in the water was great. Boat ran perfect, the weather was excellent and the fish never bit! Not one nibble, but on the way home my son looked at me(still wearing his life vest in the truck) and said " dad that was a great day fishing". With a recent injury that has me laying flat on my back 90% of the day I realize even more how much I enjoy fishing, and look forward to the next "great day fishing" with my son.
Members Indiana Trout Posted June 8, 2010 Members Posted June 8, 2010 You never know what it means until you can't do it for a while...Whether it's work or "just too busy", when you go back, then you'll know. Sometimes, if you stand on the bottom rail of a bridge and lean over to watch the river slipping slowly away beneath you, you will suddenly know everything there is to be known. --Pooh's Little Instruction Book, inspired by A. A. Milne
Members bheff Posted June 11, 2010 Members Posted June 11, 2010 Good news is I woke up from surgery yesterday without any pain, except from the surgery itself. I can actually stand up and sit without any pain what so ever. My son has already asked when can we go fast and catch some fish. It may be a few months still before I can wade in the river but atleast I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
