troutgnat Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 Gentlemem, I had heard thru the grapevine, last week shunned up a great crankn bite on DD22's and Fat Free's. I just heard of one incident but it was enough to spark my interest. I am in Tulsa right now training on a new job but will be in for the weekend and I have a deep crankn box ready for a workout. Can anyone provide some more truth to this rumor. I would like to know if anyone is on this bite, please inform best that you can. Any advice is appreciative. I have'nt been on the H2O in 2 weeks and I am all about a crankn bite on the Rock and would like to devote Sat. to it! T-RockJaws Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I have thrown a few deep divers in the last week or so, but not much luck from my end. However, there is a large amount of small perch cruising around the shallows. Some smaller crank baits in the perch family colors should produce a few fish for you.
Champ188 Posted June 8, 2010 Posted June 8, 2010 I heard from a very reliable source that yes, the deep crankin' bite is underway up the White. That's about all I can say about it but again, that comes from a reliable source. Also, seeing that an established deep crankbait expert finished both in second and third place in the KVD tourney should tell you something. I'd say spending Saturday looking for that pattern would be time well spent.
troutgnat Posted June 8, 2010 Author Posted June 8, 2010 Ooohhh, Champ I like to hear those words! This is kind of a specialized bite and only comes around so often. I am very tempted to put nothing but my crankin gear in the boat and go all out or bust. If I stick with it I should figure a pattern. To earn a quality crankbait fish is like no other for me. PS: You on the water Sat. too? Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
Champ188 Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 Yes, Donna and I plan to be somewhere up the White ourselves Saturday. There's a Guys and Gals derby June 19 that we plan on fishing so I figure we better go see what we can find. I'll definitely have my "deep dawgs" in the boat as well along with some fb jigs. Might even have a fairy wand or two onboard in case I can remember how to rig up one of those drop-shot contraptions. One might say that kind of fishing isn't exactly high on my list of preferred tactics.
Stump bumper Posted June 9, 2010 Posted June 9, 2010 I was on the white and Kings yesterday out of Big M and hit fish all afternoon right off the bank under trees and around log jams. Might be some deep crankin action but flipping any shaded area put a lot of 16-18 in largemouth in the boat for me and my wife. The wind was blowing about 15 mph out of the south, could be the reason so many fish were up on the bank.
troutgnat Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 Well done stump bumper. Did your water have any color to it? Were you flipping tubes or jigs? Darren Sadler "Fishing is an Education...Often the fish 'school' me, yet I do not complain. I just keep going to class!"
Stump bumper Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Well done stump bumper. Did your water have any color to it? Were you flipping tubes or jigs? There is a good green tint, not as much in the Kings as the white, went back today barley a riple on the water and nothing but dinks. I had to go 30ft with a drop shot to get a keeper. When the Wendsday night tournament kicked off tonight I saw a lot of boats run a long way up the Kings. I was throwing a twin tail grub on a 1/4 oz jig head the day before and slaying them, but I guess that pattern needs a few white caps. The wife was throwing a Yum Dinger texas rigged with no weight and was matching me 1 to 1.
