Lots of trout around the bridge by the hatchery, I caught trout there all morning, I landed

maybe 15 trout the first couple of hours, caught most of them on a white marabou and a white

woolybugger, I caught a few on a #18 Sow Bug fished about 3 feet below an indicator, the water

is still up a bit and a bit murky, but not bad at all, I did add extra weight on my line when

fishing the sow bug to get it down quicker and to slow it down a bit, caught a few on a apricot

glo-ball, size #20 and just before I left I landed a rainbow that was 9 1/2 lbs, caught it on a

weighted white bugger, I hooked it by the bridge (hatchery bridge) and landed it about 100yds

downstream, saw a lot of fish here and there, some small some decent, nice mixture of small

and medium sized fish, I landed around 36 total today, very nice day on the water, not a lot of

people around and the wind never got up today, tried a beetle and had few fish come to it, but

never got one to take. I had a good day, did hear a lot of grumbling about size, but hey thats

fishing, they can't all be 15" inchers all day long :)

How much illegal activity and game violations did you witness ? Has the place really turned into "Infraction Central" like they keep saying ?

9 1/2 pounds...I would say that is a good day for sure. Congrats! Sounds like the fishing is pretty good. I did fairly well when the water was up a few weeks ago considering the conditions.

I didn't see anybody doing anything illegal, everybod was fishing jigs, glo-balls, a few were fishing cracklebacks on sink tip lines.

I stayed mostly in zone 2 but everybody seemed to fishing correctly.

Tim,

Sounds like a great day to be out. So did the big fish have a lot of fight in it or did it just use it's big body and allow the current it to push it down stream? I'm asking because I have catch a few big ones in that area before and they were terrible fighters. I landed a 6+ pounder in 30 seconds on 6x tippet a few years back.

Just got back after 5 days at Bennett, Crackle backs were smokin fish in the mornings and late evening, also buggers. Pretty dead after lunch as usual in the heat of the day(my theory because they always eat so many guts in the morning) but every evening about 715 a big hatch was coming off the water and I caught alot on dries, first night was all on Lt. Cahills size 18 and then the other 3 nights on elk hair caddis, then would switch to cracklebacks after that and catch steady fish until the buzzer. No lunkers for me this round but did see a few in the river that were pretty skiddish from people plopping huge bobbers around them and couldn't get a good run at any without them being bothered.

I didn't see anyone doing anything illegal either, which was kind of suprising since it was free fishing weekend.

Merlin Olsen's favorite jig is the Micro Jig....RIP M.O.
